there is a section in the local newspaper, stating that "Sandwell" is moving hundreds of asylum seekers out of its properties and giving these houses/flats to local people..

its about time logic was stronger than P.C. i have no problem with real asylum seekers, but its all gotten out of hand.

There are many myths propagated about asylum seekers and many people are too ready to lump them together with illegal immigrants and economic migrants.

The UK has fewer applications for asylum than Austria, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, Luxembourg and Belgium.

Asylum benefits are on average 30% lower than the basic level of income support.

Asylum seekers often seek sanctuary in their former 'colonial masters' country for language reasons. Hence Algerians go to France and Sri Lankans come to Britain.

The top 5 countries with citizens seeking asylum in the UK in 2002 were Iraq, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Somalia and China. Note this is 2002, before the war in Iraq started.

Interesting, Druscilla. It's funny how people automatically assume nowadays that people are asylum seekers, just because it is forefront in the news all the time.

I wouldn't resent any people from any of the countries you quote seeking asylum here. We are lucky to live in such a tolerant country.

There is German blood in my family and I married a Frenchman. My two young daughters were born in France, lived there for five and three years, respectively and now live with me in England. It's all part of the colourful patchwork that is Britain today.

Anyone seeking a white Anglo Saxon England should remember the Angles, Saxons and Jutes were also immigrants; along with the Danes, the Normans, the Huguenots, the Jews, the Bangladeshi's, Indians, Pakistani's and South Africans, who have entered the country in their thousands since 1990 and never receive a mention. I wonder why?

what i was trying to say is that Britain is becoming the dumping ground of the world ! this ISNT and WASNT a racist thread, so please dont turn it in to one !

all i see is people who think they are doing "the right thing" by allowing tens of thousands of imigrants into Britain... what i see is a country in decline !!! a country that cant keep its own nationals housed and educated.

gessoo, would you be happy to walk your streets if you were on your guard with every step you took ? not just from imigrants, but from the locals too !?!?!

as for the "white english", that was from a council flyer. posted through every door in this neighbourhood, i didnt ask them for the figures they were sent to me.... i as a white English male, in my immediate location (about 2square miles) i am a minority !!!

I quite resent being written off as some weak, liberal, politically correct do gooder whose sabotaged your thread and made it a quesiton of race. I have not as a matter of fact mentioned race, I merely pointed out that to me one person is as good as the next person and I don't care whether I live next door to an immigrant ( white or black) or a native "white englishman". I can't see the difference and I can't understand why anyone would object to having asylum seekers in their locality.I grew up in real poverty and have not always had an easy time, but now live in a small English rural community in a "good" area, but we also have a flat in London and when we are there we love the cultural diversity and feel in no way marginalised because it's a multi-ethnic area with lots of immigrants and asylum seekers.

I posted the first reply to this thread, made some valid points about the provision of accommodation for Asylum Seekers and the economic considerations, and your instant reply was to say "this isn't a racist thread". I never said it was, but it seems you are very defensive and perhaps are protesting a little too much. If you are going to start a thread on this site, you must be prepared to have people disagree with you.

i made a valid statment about asylum seekers, and it became a racist thing.

to be honest, i made my point clearly on more than one posting and just couldnt be bothered to defend myself anymore...

its a fact that Sandwell Council intends to move asylum seekers. its also a fact that i agree with them.

what isnt fact, is what some people choose to believe...

for ever and a day i will defend what i know to be a fact. cant be bothered to defend myself against some peoples intrepritation of what they THINK i was saying !

In one sentence you talk about 'these people' being asylum seekers and with the next breath, they are not genuine, asylum seekers- like you know the difference! Do you have a magic ball that helps you determine a person's status?

If Sandwell chooses to opt out of its legal responsibility under United Nations agreements with the UK government to protect asylum seekers, I sincerely hope the UK government opts out of all central funding for education, health and re-building in the Sandwell area.

I totally know what funkymoped is saying. I agree with him 110 %. This country cannot handle the sheer volume of immigrants coming to our shores. Genuine asylum seekers, no problem, its the illegal ones that just seem to get away with being her that p me off. Only being a small island, we can't cope anymore, no doctors places, schools short of money and places, the NHS is buckling under the strain of them all. It is NOT about colour race or anything else, just the volume! There is NO question that this country is bulging at the seams, when do we say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH? let another country take the strain of it all!

there is 600 new houses being built in rugeley as we speak, 200 are for imagrants!!
