Allowing banks to function so as to abide by Sharia Law is actually something positive and of which we should be proud ( not paranoid). Most Muslims are pleasant hardworking individuals with no desire to radically alter "our" country and are a minority in terms of ethnicity and religious practice so it would be very difficult for them to accomplish it even if they did, but that doesn't make good TV and it doesn't make headlines in the Daily Mail, that why you never hear it.
Wish I could be as tolerant as you Nox..... at least one interviewee in the programme wanted Sharia Law extended to replace our current system in the UK, and for cases to be convened in a religious court with a Mullah doing the judging.
Recently on BBC, a documentary showed that teenage girls have routinely been executed in Iran... for crimes against chastity! These executions were by public hanging (from a crane, in a town centre). It might be OK to slightly relax our laws to allow easier business relations with those companies and countries governed by Sharia Law, but I would hate to see it extended further.

In years to come Muslims will continue to migrate to UK for work and other economic benefits - plus have large families as they are exhorted to by their Religious leaders.
Meantime among Non- Muslim British Families the birth rate is reported as dramatically dropping to nearer one child per family than two.
As Muslims become increasingly frustrated and alienated by American and British "hand in glove" foreign policy and perceived decadent UK ethical & social standards - is it not conceivable at some point in the future that Muslims will launch a SHARIA POLITICAL PARTY when Muslim numbers are sufficient to win a general election (particularly under the UKs first past the post system) and that Sharia Law will be democratically applied to ALL UK CITIZENS.

No, not really, smithers. Lots of people seem to have views akin to the above, but that doesn't mean to say they'd join, support or even vote for the BNP.
The level of support the BP actually gets seems to be orders of magnitude away from the numbers of people who express concern about things like the above.

I don't think Sharia law will be introduced to Britain and I think one of the most vocal groups against it would be Moslem women, particularly the young, who may accept many of the tenets of Islam, but would not tolerate the abolition of British secular laws that give them a degree of freedom and protection they would not experience under Sharia law or in the homelands of their parents/grandparents.
