I wish I had some of your optimism fender62 , but with only recent history to take in account, the now and near future doesnt look too good and a sudden occurance of general common sence prevailing is becoming more and more illusive. o.k. I might be a bit of a pessimist -I hope so.

A program about the millions of tolerant, friendly, well integrated muslims that live in this country wouldn't make good viewing now, would it? Any thread titled Muslims on the answerbank makes me shake my head before I even read it these days. There are mad Muslims, mad Christians, mad agnostics, mad school kids and mad grannies... it's just trying to get everyone worked up.

The main difference, though, is that the other groups of mad people you mention do not have it written in their scriptures that their prophet will only return to earth when all the "infidels" have been either converted or eradicated.

And therein lies the rub.

Oh, rest assured fender - that's what the 'radicals' would love to achieve, although I don't think it will happen overnight ! I just hope to GOD it doesn't happen in our granchildren's life time!

Incidentally, we're already bending over backwards for them in this country - just look at the current lot of attempted suicide bombers being held - they all live in Council flats which they don't mind living in - but they're prepared to cause havoc within the community........

They can all blow themselves up for all I care - but do it in the middle of a desert - so they can't harm anyone else!!!!

You know when that bloke went around a couple of years back blowing up black people in Brixton, then Asians in Brick Lane, and gays in Old Compton Street, was there the same level of hate expended on the general white population?

When the IRA were blowing up parts of London, did we all treat Irish people with suspicion?

Finally, and I really, really want to hear an answer to this - where are the moderate non-Muslims who have the guts to decry racism and extremism from ALL sections of the community.

Ideally, if they were to go and commit suicide in the desert, they could take every paid up member of the BNP with them.

Just imagine a country free of all extremists.

All we would have left were decent hard working members of society...and Madonna.

I did say 'radicals' in my post sp1814 - not all Muslims - so not sure who you'd like an answer from?

Anyone who cites hatred &/or murders innocent people (no matter what race, religion or creed) is evil & should be dealt with accordingly.

The problem as I see it is that non-Muslims are now being afflicted with the same disease that affected non-Blacks in the 1970s.

Someone recently posted a nasty little rant here a couple of days back stating "whenever you see rapists and murderers in the papers, they're always black".

This is where we're sleepwalking to - non-Muslims are beginning to see all Muslims as a danger...take the whole veil fiasco. Average, boring women who haven't done anything to draw attention to themselves (ironically) are targetted for no other reason but their 'otherness'.

I bet that the average non-Muslim (and by that, I mean 'non-Muslim', not white, sees the greater Muslim community as being implicitly guilty of 'turning a blind eye'.

This is something that I've seen time and again in other communities. We're all guilty...it's just by degree.

I'm exasperated by the 'Oh, let's see what Muslims get up to behind closed doors' attitude.

Okay - let's check out what the Muslim care workers, nurses, doctors and civil engineers are doing...

Naaah...let's not - we're not interested in balance.

From personal experience, Muslims are some of the most racist and bigoted people I have ever come into contact with. How many christian familys have been caught killing their daughter because she wont marry another Muslim?

I agree, in an 'ideal world', it would be wonderful to have 'only' decent hard working members of the society in it, but that's never going to happen!

BTW, what's Madonna got to do with this thread - just wondering?

How many Muslims do you know who have done that.

I would like you to name them.

Once you've done that, I would like you to then reflect on the number of racists (not necessarily white - just non-Muslim who use casual racism on a day to day basis against Muslims.

Why do you think that a minority of 18 year old Muslims see people in this country as the enemy? Do you think perhaps when they see their mothers and sisters abused in shopping malls, it might have something to do with it?
