Is this a fitting end for this tyrant? Personally, I would prefer to see him imprisoned, for two reasons. 1) Regardless of his crime, I cannot bring myself to feel approval for the death penalty, and 2) I think that his death will have terrible repurcussions, first in Iraq, but then in a much wider sphere, possibly here also in the U.K.

Bush and Blair should hang with him...as far as i am concerned they are all as guilty as each other.
I never have (and never will) agree with the death penalty as a means of doleing out 'justice'. However, as a UK citizen, I have no right to tell a country, that my government has gone to war against (in the apparent interests of democracy), that they cannot use their rule of Law to punish a criminal. The issue is not whether WE support Saddam's execution but whether we interfere with an, apparently independent, nation's domestic legislative affairs. We do not kick up a fuss every time an American prison executes an inmate, why should we in this instance?
mmm, well, as we have already interfered in Iraq's affairs, bigmalc, it could be argued that we have some responsibility for how things turn out, good or bad.
That's partly my point jno, I think that the most responsible thing we can do is to allow thw Iraqis to decide how they are to deal the problem, rather than sticking our unwanted noses in even further. If the point of the invasion was, indeed, to help create a democracy, then we have no business telling Iraq how to manage its legislature. Let them sort it out for themselves and show that all hope for Iraq as a nation capable of supporting itself is not lost. I'm pretty sure that if Iraq invaded America, put George Bush on trial for war crimes and demanded his execution, the yanks would be less than impressed. I'd be interested to hear, though, what the difference of opinion between Americans and Brits is re his execution (Saddam's that is.... though I'd like to hear about the other one too!).
Wherever one lives in the world, everyone knows it is wrong to violently terminate life. It is not merely a law of society, but a human belief and instinct which is instilled from birth. Many countries have created and enforce different punishment laws to offenders. However, in the case of this brutal beast of a man, the law must be seen to be adhered to. At least he knows WHY he is being punished - that is more than can be said for the thousands of pitiful souls he allegedly exterminated during a time of evil misrule. They will be remembered. Hopefully Saddam will not.
Saddam is (or now likely to be was) a problem, and a martyr dead or alive. Far better that he spent his life in prison with NO media coverage as was the case of Hess during WW2 until his death.....what better sentence for a tyrant than a long life in jail and no means to correspond or be heard by the media, and becoming a forgotten man whose words were never reported ever again.
ok so all of you who are against him being hanged, would you feel the same if it was a child of yours that was murdered by the disgusting ways that he did to countless innocents?
