Does anyone know how the current monthly death-rate for civilians compares with the monthly state-murder rate (i.e.executions and torture) under Saddam Hussein? Have things got better or worse? And are the majority living more stable, happier lives than the fearful mutual suspicion suffered under his dictatorship?

Unlike the Nazis Saddam did not keep scrupulous records but this estimates an average of 70 - 125 a day

The official figure in kwickys link works out at 62 a day on average

I'd suspect the majority who spent theire lives in fear of him now sopend it in fear of either their neighbours in sectarian violence or American troops losing their heads and killing everybody like these ones did.

Funny you'd think that a bunch of troops on trial for masacring 24 men women and children would have gotten more publicity wouldn't you?
I agree, jake, 'tis rather strange that it wasn't reported -still, obviously couldn't have been that important, then......
I can't speak for Europe or the U.K., but the incident and follow up arrests and pending trial were widely reported here in the U.S....
38 Iraqi's dead a day in the pursuit of freedom must be great news for the Invaders from the US and UK.

And now there is more American citizens dead in Iraq than were killed during the events of 9/11.

But, on the plus side. I'm glad someone is benefiting from all this horror.

That's interesting Clanad - it's been very quiet over here - might be a case of

"The end of the world is looming....No Britons involved"

That happens sometimes
