Whilst sitting here in my office at home working, I heard on the Radio that a school somewhere in England has banned the playground game of 'tag'. I only caught a few words.
Is this true, or just more media hysteria?

This isn't new news really is it? 15 years ago, I was being banned from playing British Bulldogs, and certain tennis ball games that involved launching it at each other. They said we would injure each other
Not saying that I agree mind. I didn't have skin on my knees from age 8-12 and it never did me any harm ;)

Yes it is true and they have banned it and british bull dog, it's a school in Lincolnshire, not sure of the village name.
they said the poor little darlings were getting hurt because they were playing to rough. no wonder we are getting to be a namby pamby state, what with the govenment and now the teachers, they will be telling us it's to dangerous to walk along the pavement next!

It's symptomatic of the the previous generation's propensity to look for blame and to sue.
Little Johnny came home with a tear in his trousers? It's the school's fault for letting him run !!
Although less common than the media would have us believe, it is this 'culture of blame' that schools (etc) are afraid of. Hence, playground games, outdoor activities, school trips etc are all cancelled as a result.
This culture, helped along by media hysteria has already created a generation incapable of distinguishing 'hazard' from 'risk', and of keeping a sense of proportion when informed of a risk.
Since, in evolutionary terms, man is able to appreciate hazard and risk as a result of his own experiences (and, funnily enough, not by what he reads in the papers), then we are creating a generation with no experiences on which to base their appreciation of risk. Result? Some who are scared of everything and some who are scared by nothing.
Frightening, eh?

Several years ago, (about 25) when my daughter got a black eye by being hit with the wooden handle of a skipping-rope, school banned them for a short while. Just long enough to make the children realise how dangerous they could be. Poor child was paraded onto the stage in assembly to show them all what could happen.
Strangely, that was in Lincolnshire too!
Mind you, it was BAD! And I still have the school photo to prove it.

Yes it was me!
I work in a school and I don't think anyone unless they work in one! realises quite how aggressive and angry parents can get with staff when their child is sent home either dirty, hurt or telling stories of being bullied.
All the above are totally unacceptable to happen to a child I agree and I also think banning games is stupid as children have to experience things to learn but I can also see the point?
I bet I get slated now for this post!
