The plan is for the mosque to be so big that people flying in from all over the world for the 2012 Olympics will it see it as the biggest landmark in London.

Take a second to cast your vote in the Evening Standard online poll
To determine public opinion about whether a mega mosque should be Built for the Olympics.

The vote so far is 56 % in favour. It looks like the Muslim
Community is casting its vote in droves.

After voting, forward this to as many people as
You can. Here's the link:

I have said before that I think that building a mosque on the Olympic site is a cynical attempt to minimise the threat of a terrorist attack during the games.
29-10
Hammer head even with a 45 minute warning LOL
I don't give a rats bum really, as soon as i have enough money, i am out of this dump. They can have it all, smash it down and turn you all in to sand dancers for all i care, this place has no backbone anymore, it aint worth a toss. I am sick to death with having to apologise for this countrys past, you lot can feel guilty, i wasn't there, i don't care. Churchill would turn in his grave and i don't mean the dog on the telly.
It'll look lovely.

You're doing what a lot of people seem to do when the subject of Islam, or rather, 'Muslims' comes up.

It's seems to me from your post that you're lumping together a number of issues, none of which are related.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the proposed site for the mosque a brownfield site?

What would you rather have? An abandoned, idle, or under-used industrial site, or a mosque?

Actually, don't answer that...I think I know what you'll say.

Also, someone said that if a giant cross were built , then you could imagine the reaction by Muslims.

Well, Madonna was suspended from a great big mirrored cross during her last concert tour, and I don't recall any complains from Muslims.
Dont think so fender

the question is "are you in favour of the 100 M mosque?"

and 59% are saying yes!

Or maybe the readers of ThisisLondon are finding the question too hard

Why care if some of the money comes from Saudi Arabia? Is the suggestion that we to ban any foreign investment, or just those from Muslim countries? As I understand it, the main benefactors will be the Tablighi Jamaat, more of a large missionary movement than the imagined dark talons of S.Arabia.
I know that in some countries, religious and personal freedoms are not respected, but I don't live in one, and don't want to live anywhere where religious and other freedoms are shackled. I fail to see the validity of the argument, that if another country is less liberal in their treatment of others, then it follows that we should do the same.
any1 who lives in britain shouldnt want to be reminded what britishness is but it seems we have lost all our identity and sp1814 i shouldt imagine many muslims went to the madonna concert do you?hammer head although i agree with your sentiments about the building of the mosque at that paticular site but i honestly dont think that would stop a terrorist attack a good number of the 7/7 victims were of muslim origin they dont care who or what they blow up mate im afraid.

ThisisLondon pose the question "are you in favour of the 100 M mosque?" with a YES or NO reply option, with 59% in favour.

fender62 is referring to the online petition that just has the against it option, so only objectors are counted.

"Do you want a Mosque to be London's biggest landmark?"

Rest assured anotheoldgit, I have just checked this out against other landmark buildings, and It (if it is built) will NOT be London's biggest landmark, not by any stetch of the imagination. in fact it will be rather puney compared to more established landmarks. Granted, it will be a big building for a place of worship, but London's biggest landmark, no way.
Appologies I misunderstood that.

Interesting to compare and contrast the two -

Rather begs the question "Are petitions a valid democratic tool?"

Maybe one for another day

1.8M have signed the petition against Road Charging. A lot of people. However, in a country of 60M just a very small but vocal minority.

"Are petitions a valid democratic tool?" - NO!
The issues have to lumped together, they affect each other. This country has lost the plot, we are bending over backwards and upsetting the origanal dwellers trying to make other people happy. We have see the light as far as i am concerned when it comes to christianity, we have nearly got rid of one mind bending control mechanism and another one is approaching and no one has the minerals to stop it. They ( the goverment) have turned the people of this country into a load of pussy whipped sponges, who stand up for people who would rather see them dead,, I don't want the likes of these people on my side, they will let me down when the time comes, so, sod it i am off, i am not telling you where. Maybe i'll go to Iran and open a music shop,,,, ha ha.
