Can someone be too nice?
33 Answers
Do you think it is possible for a person to be too nice? I go out of my way to help and do things for people and I just wonder if I come across as a 'wimp' because of this?
For example, my dad has a very elderly neighbour, who was complaining about the cold a few months back, so I managed to get him some extra blankets for nothing, which I dropped to him. I said I'd put them on his bed for him and I was appalled by the state of his bed linen, he doesn't own a machine and doesn't have a carer. So I took the linen and washed it myself. Is that taking being kind too far?
If it isn't, I'd love some ideas of silly kind things to do. Nothing expensive as I have been off sick for 2 years and the sickness benefit is rubbish! I just love to see someone smile!
OK you can get your sick bags out now!

I think the only time taking it too far is if you end up being taken advantage yourself or a kind turn ends up using a lot of your time and you have none left for yourself.
Keep up the good work, if only there were more people like you in this world! :o)

The other day, my own neighbour, who I have never spoken to, looked upset - she had lost her dog. She is a young Greek girl, who had just had him bought into the country a month ago and she was quite distraught. She wasn't aware that we have a dog warden service. I called the dog warden and they had him there, so I took her down there so she could retrieve him.
She said she never realised people could be so caring and that it would not have happened in Greece, and the best thing that came out of it, apart from her getting her doggie back, is that I know my neighbour now to talk to.
Saying that, to date, I have rescued about 6 dogs and returned them to their owners, purely because I have a dog myself and hope that someone would do the same for me if my dog escaped.

I'm 38 & female, not that makes any difference.
When I took Old BIll, as he is known, his blankets, I was genuinely horrified by the state of his bed linen, I could never let anyone sleep like that, and after all, it is just a washing machine load.
With Katya, the Greek girl, she was so upset, I hate it when people are upset like that. She is new to the country and running her down to the kennels was no big deal, it is 10 minutes away.
So I didn't stop to think about either action, it just happened on the spur of the moment.

There was one occasion when an old man was eating other people's left overs out of the bins.So i went over and offered him some money as id just come out of a restaurant the old guy went mad.
I felt bad walking out of a restaurant and this poor guy is staving.
How any body could do that you have to be in a bad state to go through the bins. But i guess if your hungry you will eat out.
The guy wasnt drunk by the way

What constitutes kindness is the question.
This year was the first time ever I have donated to a peoples charity. I never give anything to beggers apart from a shove and never, ever to foreign ones.
However, I donate both time and money to animal charities, employ an elderly woman occassionally for domestic duties and pay her well above the odds, have fought and killed for the honour and safety of this country, and worked hard in securing pension rights for Ghurkas.
Am I a nice, kind person? I have insulted those foul (often s1uttish women) who walk in to my pub and offer some freeze-dried rose for about 4 pounds. Called the police on beggers and verbally harrassed them from my village. The list is not exhaustive.
But I have given thousands over the years to fluffy animals and once even paid about 2k for a dying dog I came accross on the road.
Some say I am heartless, but if they only knew the truth!!!
