Whatever became of the planned investigation into the allegation that the recently compulsorily-retired leader of the Opposition had misused public funds to pay his wife for secretarial duties? Was that booted into touch along with him?
It has gone very quiet on 'Betsygate' hasn't it? I can't find much on the web since last October. So presumably it's still with the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, who's mulling it over, in a rather ponderous Whitehall way.
I bet the Tories are just praying he releases his findings on the day Lord Hutton releases his, thus burying it under the weight of the media attention Hutton will get!
Thanks to both of you. I see in today's (Jan 23) 'Times' that the publication of the report has been put off now until the end of next month! The Commissioner says that that is the earliest he can expect to complete his enquiries. The newspaper suggests this must mean he is finding new "avenues to explore". Curiouser and curiouser!
