your own actions
just reading stokeaces post regarding these parents meeting with the pope, i have stayed away from the posts about this little girl, cos no matter what your opinions are, someone will take offence, but .. watching the news last night and the last few weeks made me think that somehow its always easier to blame someone else when something goes wrong? The fella in Cyprus who rented out a jet-ski to 16 year old kids, and then the fatal accident that occurred where he collided with his girlfriend and killed her.....well how does THAT make it the jet-ski owners fault? ok he should have asked for ID BUT also they should NOT have rented the jet-skis, and the girl murdered by the japanese student.... well millions of youngsters go travelling the world and are OK, why was she in his apartment with him alone?? bit risky to say the least, now her parents are blaming his father, yes i know these are terrible tradgedies and should not happen BUT they do and sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own actions, these are my opinions and i am entitled to them so dont bother having a go cos i'll only have a go back, i am one of the minority i expect -that whilst hoping that this little girl gets found safe! that her parents were to blame for what has occurred, and no-one else, YES we should be able to leave our children unattended but the fact is we cant, and IF WE CHOOSE TO, then we have to suffer the consequences, blaming the Portugese police for being too slow is not the way to go, i am not being heartless here, we have had many holidays with little miss CP, and taken it in turns to go off and eat rather than leave her, not great fun i know but having kids is the decision you make! in the paper last week centre pages and photos of 30 kiddies missing for months and not a single mention? why is this one so different?

does neilzulu1 live in the real world? some very evil people exist in this world...you only have to read the papers, turn the tv on etc. the macanns are supposed to be intelligent responsible people..surely they cannot claim to be so niave as to leave their very young children alone in an unlocked apartmentment in a strange country and expect no harm to come to them? this is not logical reasoning..it's plain stupidity and utterly selfish of them. no sorry...there is no excuse for what they did and what they are suffering now is self inflicted but poor madeleine is suffering infinitely more for their actions
Yes the parents were irresponsible.
They are still coming out with this rubbish that it is no different to being at the end of their garden. If a child wakes up at home it can wander to the garden looking for mummy, but not in a strange land when they are the other side of a pool)
However, blame? That surely is with the person who abducted her.

My friend has two children and her in laws owned a chemist shop, the father-in-law was (retired now) being a pharmacist. Whenever her children stayed overnight at the in laws, they slept from 8pm until 10am. Yes, you read that right!! Mr. Pharmacist administered a small dose of "sleep 14 hours without waking me up" medicine and a good night was had by all.
I was wondering how the parents could leave them, with the doors unlocked, a pool outside and the apartment next to the road, without worrying that one wouuld wake and wander off. Well, maybe the children were sedated...as the parents were Drs. It would explain that side of things to me...........

Yes I too think these parents were very irresponsible. Having seen the latest video clip of them boarding the plane at East Midlands Airport. Even then this poor child injured her jaw when she slipped on the aircraft's boarding steps. What responsible parent would allow their child to climb such very steep steps without any assistance?
I have always had the same opinion as Ethel..why on earth has the immediate conclusion been that Maddie was abducted? So far the only leads the authorities seem to have are somewhat vague reports of seeing a man with a little blonde girl. In different areas.
From what I have seen, the parents make me feel uncomfortable. The father has said he 'isn't particularly religious' yet has been in church and of course, has been granted an audience with the Pope.
If one of my kids went missing I wouldn't be able to speak, let alone utter the word 'excited'.

It's not the parent's fault she was abducted. It is the fault of the abductor. Had Maddie and her siblings died in a fire or self induced accident, that would have been the parent's fault.
But someone has abducted her and that makes this the abductor who is guilty and therefore at fault not anyone else.
Can we please remember that instead of getting all pedantic? I'd love you to face the parents and say all this 'it's your fault' rubbish to their faces. Like you would.

How can you say that it wasn't the parents' fault for leaving the children on their own in an unlocked apartment, but say that it would have been their fault if the children had died in a fire? If she has been abducted, then there is blame on the abductor too, but if they had not left the children in the first place, he/she wouldn't have been able to take her.
That's the problem isn't it Kathyan? I was brought up to believe that your children are your responsibility, and the responsibilty of whoever is caring for them.
I don't go with the idea that 'you should be able to leave your kids alone' no you shouldn't. A child could have a nasty fall, get hold of some matches and many other things.
If your child died in a house fire who is to say it is your fault anyway? it isn't only dropped cigarettes which cause house fires, and most parents would do anything to keep their kids safe in the home. The fact here is that Maddie wasn't at home ~ and her parents were not keeping her safe.

Nicecupoftea, had the parents been sat in the lounge of the apartment and the 'abductor' just took a chance opportuntiy and walked in...............once he saw the parents there he wouldve walked out empty handed? right or wrong? so...............the parents werent there....hence.... he walked away with a child!!! End of.
Oh and just for the record, i would tell them to their face that i think they are in the wrong, one doesnt have to be nasty its just the plain fact of the matter! A pund to a penny they already think that anyway!

Well then "nicecupoftea" answer me this....if the oh so lovely macanns had offered to take your young child on holiday with them and their children, and horror of horror it had been your child that had gone missing.....what would you have to say then. I would put money on it.....you would blame the macanns for for being so damn stupid as to leave such very young defenceless children alone in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country. We all know it's a frightening world out there full of dangers and we should do our very best to protect those most vulnerable. It is easy to be so charitable in your judgement when the situation does'nt directly affect you personally...and then it is a totally different story.
