It's irrelevent.
He's a dead racist.
There's nothing better than being able to put those words together in a sentence.
He was absolute filth.
Nothing can dent the good mood I'm in. Ever since the 70s, I've been looking forward to bad, bad, bad things happening to Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning.
One down, one to go.

I guarantee to you with hand on heart, I simply never found Irish jokes funny. Ever.]
I used to knock around with a Jewish girl who told me hilarious Jewish jokes, but they were really odd, non-obvious which appealed to my sense of humour, such as:
Two Jewish women meet on the street for the first time in years. One says to the other - "My God - you look amazing. So young and fresh and beautiful. What's you're secret".
The other woman leans over and says,"I'm having an affair".
"Oh", replies the first woman, "Who's doing the catering?"
Now THAT is a funny joke based on racial idiosyncracies.
Telling p*ki and n****r jokes isn't.
Honest...whilst I was writing that, I was trying to think whether Frank Carson had ever made me laugh, and not even HIS Irish jokes ever tickled me.

Im confused now, Jewish jokes are funny but other ones on race aren't?
You laugh at Jewish ones, so if i laugh at one based on the stereotype of another race/religion how is that different to you laughing at one based aroung Jewish "traits" ??
You looked forward to bad things happening to him?
Bu*ger me he was a bloke who told jokes and was that sucessful he became a millionaire out of it.

Show me where the hate is in that joke.
It was told to me by a Jewish woman.
Now...do you think that the 'bus full of n*****s' joke is in the same league?
I cannot think of a single race joke that Manning told that even hinted at affection, whereas the one I gave as an example obviously does.
Manning was a technically gifted comedian who chose to tell jokes about everyone apart from white working class men.
Why was that?

I think that's the difference which some people don't understand.
There's a world of difference between a joke which plays on the quirks of race and one that simply displays hate for other races.
There are some hilarious West Indian jokes that most people won't understand unless you get the difference between Jamaicans, St Lucians and Grenadans. They play on the relationships between people from the three islands.
However, Manning just told racist jokes. There's a world of difference.

The difference is that that's a Jewish joke, rather than an anti-semitic joke.
Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy. They all do jokes about being black, that play on black stereotypes. They don't do racist ones about wishing the country was rid of blacvks or that they were dead.
Bernard Manning was a racist, pure and simple. And like many racists of his generation, he used to blame it on the a social climate and his upbringing. Pathetic.
It's so lame to point to 'my mate Terry who's black and he never finds it offensive'. Because for every 'my mate' I can bet you there are dozens of black people who have been made to feel like sh1t because of being singled out and racially abused.
Manning was blessed with good delivery. But he nicked other people's material - because he was lazy. And he chose to use racist material - which is even lazier. It's pre-school, first base, look-and-point humour. And the world of comedy is better without him.
And as a Man City fan who's just seen one of our young players mocked and racially abused by Serbian fans and players in the Euro U21 championships, I'm glad he's not around to call himself a City supporter either. I bet Nedum Onouoha isn't crying over him.

It's only boring if you're not affected by it, isn't it.
And who's saying he didn't have freedom of speech. Of course he does. No-one is denying that.
NJOK makes a number of very good points...so can you answer this - if a crowd of footie supporters find it funny to chuck bananas on a pitch and make monkey sounds, is this acceptable humour...because it's just a joke innit?

We were fortunate enough to see dear old Bernard Manning 'live' at his club a few years ago.
We along with our friends, were greeted by him at the bar before he went on stage. He was so hospitable & a really lovely bloke.
I for one couldn't give a dam what anyone else thinks - he had us in hysterics from the minute he walked on stage, to the minute he finished.
RIP Bernard!
(P.S. In comparison - I started to watch a Chubby Brown video, but switched it off after only a few minutes! In that short time, it appeared his favourite word was c**t & I didn't see anything funny or remotely amusing in him at all).

He wouldn't say it to someone at the shops, he would say it at a show where people had paid through choice to hear what he had to say. And just trying to think how you would get "rancid old slag" into a joke. However, Iif he made jokes about the colour of her hair and the clothes she wears I would laugh because I find it funny.
I'm sure there are comedians who make jokes about straight white males and if they can make a living out of it fair play.
As I said freedom of speech. Just because you don't find it funny doesn't mean it isn't to others. It's all about taste. I find Benny Hill funny but I suppose some on here will call him an expoiter of women.
