Bear boxing in China....
The things some people go to for entertainment & the owners to earn money. They can't be right in the head!
What do you think of this story, regarding bears being forced to box each other, complete with boxing gloves & muzzles?

This cruelty to animals must stop!

Will this do?
I had a good opinion of the Americans but since my time in prison, Ive changed my mind. In Iraq we still have no freedom or democracy. They are so cruel to us.
One terrible game played involved kick-boxing. The soldiers would surround us and compete as to who could kick-box one of us furthest. The idea was to try and make us crash into the wall. The statement, part of an action being brought on behalf of the families of 13 Iraqis allegedly killed by British troops, describes how the men were covered with hoods and had freezing water poured over them. Ooooo gromit well done! I knew you'd go ferreting for a story, glad I wasn't disappointed!
Yes, agree that is a terrible story, and one that hopefully justice will prevail. However.....(you knew that was coming didn't you?) I'd also like to see justice being carried out on the bears behalf. Is that a wrong thing for me to want?
Glad we can still chuckle smudge, why on earth are you cleaning your teeth at this time of day? You got a date or something? Or have you let the dog use them as a chew toy again?

A Bulgarian chap I work with proudly told me about the dancing bears they have back home and that they "train" them on hot coals...when I said I hope one of them escapes and bites the bastads who do this..he said that can`t happen as they have their teeth and claws removed!
Yet the same bloke swerves to avoid running over rabbits on a country road...strange eh?

Excuse me, but why has no-one said anything about 'gromit' using the word 'ChInkies' to describe Chinese people??
That word is as derogatory to chinese people as the N word is to black people.
Whilst I deplore all forms of animal cruelty, I feel we have a bigger problem in the world when we still have people who think using this kind of language is still acceptable.
Every country has its own forms of cruel animal 'entertainment'. China does indeed have a history of cruelty to animals but the vast majority of it is for benificial needs such as using animals for medicine. Theres no real history of China mis-treating animals for entertainment.
This bear-boxing in China is quite an isolated incident in comparison to other nations who openly promote their entertainment such as English fox-hunting, Spanish Bullfighting and Korean horse fighting. These are much more known worldwide and to a degree, accepted.
Lets face it, China has contributed more to this world than any other (paper, money, credit banking, postal system, compasses, umbrellas, scissors, calculators and that british institution called Tea)
The Chinese have always intergrated well in other countries. We dont ever hear of the Chinese community causing trouble or asking for more.
Why dont we focus on the positives of a country rather than the occasional negatives?

ruby & garner - thank you for your contributions - glad you feel for the well being of animals too.
feelap - again, with respect, I did notice the word Chinkies, but chose to ignore it as I wanted to keep this thread as cruelty to animals (of the furry kind) & not get into racialism.
As for all the good things China does as a country - I won't elaborate on that either for the same reason.
I abhorr fox hunting too, along with c0ck fighting & anything else to do with cruelty to animals.
Off out now>>>

My use of 'ChInkies' was indeed meant in an ironic sense. If you see one of my earlier posts in the threat, you will see a long list of Daily Mail stories in a similar vein. I believe that if viewed as a a whole that the DMs campaign has a racist element and the phrases...
"Bl00dy chInkies, coming over here flogging their 42 inch Plasma televisions. It's an outrage! "
and
"We should all boycott Chinese goods until these savages start behaving properly. '
were mock Daily Mail readers' indignation.
No offense was intended to Chinese people, only DM readers.

I can quite understand what BOO meant about you earlier in this thread Gromit!
Just because many, many, many, many, many people read the Daily Mail, doesn't mean that every single reader agrees with what's written on every single page, in every paragraph & every sentence - the same as with any other newspaper. Mind you, even it they did, it has nothing whatsoever to do with you, or anyone else for that matter.
I don't judge people by the newspaper they read & I suggest you start doing the same - it'll be much healthier for your heart!

Why don't you take a positive action on animal cruelty that takes place much nearer to home than China smudge?
For example have you ever thought of writing to your European MP (MEP) to get Bull fighting banned in the EU?
Or will you be chaining yourself to the fence at Aintree at the next Grand National, in protest at the killing of horses at this event?
I take it the answer will be no, much more easier on the old conscience, sitting at your computer posting a question (that's my bit done) It's a lot less trouble eh?

Thanks for that anotheroldgit - love the name!
Funny you should mention that, BOO & I will be meeting up soon to do just that. In fact I've just ordered some heavy duty chain link just for that purpose.
I already give to animal charities in England, oh &
I also buy cat food to feed the many strays when we go abroad....is that good enough for you?
Get over it will you?
