'Truce' for Europe

I'm worried that by refusing outright any negotiations with the 'terrorists' the UK and the rest of Europe will in effect bring on their own people a refreshed wave of terrorist attacks. I understand that by agreeing to Osama et al's demands will be counterproductive in the long term etc. etc. but clearly there are issues (socio-economic and geo-political as opposed to religious, in my opinion) to be raised and for some reason the West is just not willing to bring these up with the groups involved. It is easy for us to shun them as lunatics who will go on killing no matter what, but I genuinely think that it's time for us to address the issues they raise.

I feel as if the US government doesn't want to be faced with what they have to say - moreso, it doesn't want it's public to be aware of them. What do people here think?

in all honesty they will likely denounce the offer (in the eyes of the world) to make a stand, but behind the scenes they will negotiate to prevent further attacks. typical government politics.

I hope darth is right, i.e. that the government do indeed carry out negotiations behind the scenes, otherwise we will continue to be a target. The US and UK governments like to look as if they are 'protecting' their people, but are in fact doing the opposite. Terrorism will continue for as long as imperialist Western governments stick their bullying snouts into weaker countries' affairs.

Do you honestly believe that we are not already a target whether or not we speak to these people. You can not negotiate with terrorists, political parties like in Ireland yes but not terrorists with no goal or purpose but to inflict as many deaths as possible in attacks. The only reason we have not been bombed is that our security services are the best in the world. P.S. I hate the way people say that we have not been attacked yet. How many brits were killed in 9/11, bali and turkey? just cos it hasn't happened on our soil doesn't mean we haven't been the victims of these s(umbags !

they do have a goal, wether it's for the world to follow islam or the west to stay in the west we're not sure, however either way nothing excuses their behavouir. the story in the s u n today (if true) is a frightening example of what could lay ahead. something needs to be changed because afet revery failed attempt another one is probably in place and and with every dead suicide bomber there are 10 new volunteers. this will never end until some sort of 'truce' takes place. i also see where the US and Britain are coming from because the way the extremists put across their message proves that they are not fit for civilisation never mind running a country. we wait in nervous anticipation.......

Some really interesting views on here. Just want to add something that was going over and over in my head - their new game seems to be taking people captive. In some situations, you can just "play them at their own game", but this time you can't - if we threatened to kill their people, they'd let us and seemingly not care. Those people would become martyrs. Also agree that - even in this -"civilised" country - we shouldn't be so na�ve as to believe that what our government tells us doing is what's actually going on.
