The front page would seems to vere on the side that DNA is for criminals only but what about the criminals of the future? Little Johnny currently 10 years old is a little monkey at the moment and doesn't have any DNA, when he's 13 he stabs to death a boy in the street, if he had DNA logged with the police, maybe when he is born, they would be able to trace him. Surely that's what's it for isn't it? Any innocent person has no problems. Or am I mad ? Yes I know this has been discussed before but it will keep coming up because its topical.

My God!!!! What is he a robot??

No a future criminal who could possibly kill someones son or daughter.
It depends on factors such as how the data will be held, how secure it will be etc.
I am in favour of it, in principle, but not sure who could be trusted to hold the data. Possibly a third party, not the police.
I dont see it as an infringement on human rights as I dont see how the data could possibly be used other than in police enquiries.

if you have done nothing wrong u havent got anything to worry about.

Cue do gooders stating that it an "invasion of my civil liberties". How exactly is it?

Its currently held on a secure database now isn't it? Has anyone been stitched up with DNA? Surely you are making it so easy for the criminals to get away with murder?
Eyeshade - i commented on this yesterday on another post.

If everyone had a DNA sample taken at birth and it was all held securely - like it is already, wouldn't there be a far greater clear up rate for sexual assualt? As far as I am aware virtually every sexual attack leaves some form of DNA. The same with say a serious assault.

exactly but the site would have to be secure. Not sure why DNA is being given to other 3rd parties, if indeed it is?
But it would be the answer I agree.
The system is already being abused.

The private security firm LGC turned out to be retaining DNA samples instead of distroying them as they were meant to along with lots of personal data.

This is the situation now

How long do you think your DNA would stay confidential? About as long as your Email address I'd say!
And what would they be doing with our DNA?
I dont think DNA should not be held by police for the reasons that Tonyted suggests. I cant imagine what else it could be used for other than in police investigations, so does it really matter that it is being kept?
Sorry, I DO think DNA should not be kept by police!!
So Ali if a memebr of your family was murdered and DNA was left at the scene would you want a database then?
reverand, I totally agree.

Time and time again I say and adhere to "Nothing to hide, nothing to fear". And everytime there is some marxist pro-Taliban vegetarian harping on about, as you say "civil liberties". But never, and I repeat never, has anybody on here or speakers in the media convinced me that there is an argument against compulsory DNA taking.

There really is nothing to worry about unless you are a criminal.

So what if they catch the criminal through family connections?? Good police work if you ask me!!!

I am certain if one of these marxists were raped by a Welshman whilst walking home from their Yoga and Save the Rhino committee meeting, and the offender was caught on camera (the anti CCTV brigade are of the same ilk) and DNA samples were left at the scene or on the person, they would be the first to harp on and speed up the process. Also when found guilty at court, the victim would soon change their mind about low sentances and rehabilitation (again, linked with the marxist brigade) and want the victims balls chopped off!!!!

Bloody do-gooders!!!!!

Further, those stressing how "secure" the database is?? yes, there may be mistakes but do you worry that you bank details are accessible by anybody in the FSA industry? Or Sainsbury's knows your tampon habits by your use of the Nectar card??? Who cares??????

Nobody will EVER be convicted on a DNA sample alone. It will be just one part of a very long list of evidence needed to secure any convictions.

And if people are wrongly arrested, so what?? Mistakes happens. An arrest is an inconvienence that has happen since with had a legal body in the country!!!

And DNA may stop foul peasant immigrants re-entering the UK by legal means!!!!

Top post Shadow - totally agree.

You could always start the fire by saying the DNA could be stored in your ID card lol
ID cards Reverand??? Nothing to hide, nothing to far if you ask me!!!
Toatlly agree

Done nothing wrong nothing to fear and I am still waiting to hear how either of these 2 issues would effect your civil liberties lol
I'll tell you why Reverand man.

The police, man, are fascists. They represent the Queen, man, they are all bent, man. They are soldiers of the rich, man. Yeah, right, if my DNA was taken, yeah, the police would stitch me up, man because that's what they do, right.

All because I go on anti-war marches, man, yeah and once gave money to a pro-islamic library in Stockport, the police want to fit me up, man, with rape and flytipping.

It's so unfair man. DNA sucks. Lonf live Fidel Castro.
