I like rock/indie music, but whenever you hear of european music its often cheesey europop, or traditional german umpa-bands or danish folk music etc, are there any decent European equivelants to modern indie rock bands (The strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Oasis, Smiths, Stone Roses, Libertines - that kind of thing???) I'd love to hear a French Fratellis or a German Pete Docherty, or an Itallian Joy Division!!! Surely theres a bit of indie-rock outside the UK or US!!!! Can anyone help?

Lots sing in English anyway, so the Hives go unnoticed. They are Scandanavian. JUlie Peel is french. Planet Funk are Italian but I think you are forgetting probably the most successful group to sing ina foreign language everer...the mighty mighty Rammastein. Sigur Ros, in Icelandic. So basically there's lots out there but mostly to get any form of success they sing in English.

Sorry, thats what i meant - bands that dont sing in english.
rammstein rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rammstein would be an obvious choice. Die Toten Hosen are another. Sugacubes were (still are?) Icelandic, not sure Bjork ever sung in her native tongue though. Never knew Planet Funk were Italian.. 'Who Said' gives the distinct impression they're British... learn something new everyday!
Obonio..... I cant express my glee at you mentioning that. There name has escaped me for so long and once in a while I think who was that band? YEars this has escaped and I have now been able to remember Kauf Mich as soon as I saw that.
:o)
