Surely it must be illegal to stop and search people for no apparent reason? How did they manage to pass that?

If I go to the airport I know I am going to be searched. I have no problem with that. But we are talking here about catching the train home from Woolworths, not international airflights.
If there are laws which I think are unjust or as in this case, a law which was passed for one prurpose being used for a completely different purpose, then I will complain on here about.
You are probably right, nothing will change, but you should always keep an eye on what the government are up to. To passively let them do what they want is a mistake and dangerous.

Well for all the posters who seem to take exception to this - I suggest you refuse to be searched if you are stopped then tell them your objections -at length- (by which time BTW your feet wont be touching the ground -lol).
I dont think you would ever raise any doubts again about the prevention is better than cure philosophy of the vast majority of posters here and the probable results of a Voxpox in the streets of any town or city.
