Would our politicians have the courage to take similar action in our country?
No promises of action in a couple of years time, after numerous debates and inquires, but immediately as the Italians have.

You mention fairness, but from my observations those who insist on the implementation of political correctness and human rights are rarely fair to society as a whole. The weak and vulnerable do need to be protected - I would be the first to say that - and as you say, pursued properly, neither is bad, but, in general, neither appear to be pursued properly, and very often it is not the weak or the vulnerable who benefit from political correctness or human rights - it's people who damage the struggle for integration, it's people who choose to lead a life of crime, and it's people who undermine the security of this country - and who ought, if 'fairness' was really the aim, to feel the full weight of the law. I know the meaning of both terms - it's just a pity that those who advocate blanket political correctness and blanket human rights at the expense of the rights of law-abiding people - and that includes hard-working immigrants - to live in peace and security in this country, don't appear to.

These are articles of the European Covention on Human Rights on which the UK Human Rights Act is based.
I would be grateful if you tell me which of the following "...human rights are rarely fair to society as a whole."
- obligation to respect human rights
- right to life
- prohibition of torture
- prohibition of slavery
- right to liberty and security
- right to a fair trial
- no punishment without law
- right to respect for private life
- right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion
- right to freedom of expression
- right to freedom of assembly and association
- right to marry
- right to an effective remedy
- prohibition of discrimination
- derogations
- exemption for political activities of aliens
- prohibition of abuse of rights
- limitations on permitted restrictions of rights
Which of the above are "...at the expense of the rights of law-abiding people" ?

The Human Right Act 1998 was the result of an election Pledge of the New Labour Government. In was in their manifesto on which we all voted and they were elected.
The Conservatives say they will scrap it. They have not said what, if anything they will replace it with.
I am not sure what Political Correctness is other than a derogatory catch-all term usually used against a missive or idea that someone doesn't like. Can you supply a couple of examples of where PC has been "...at the expense of the rights of law-abiding people"

I don't think for one minute the demise of Christmas is immenant. If you think it is, you could invoke the article of theEuropean Human Rights Convention below.
- right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion
Imans, like anyone else are allowed freedom of speech. If they stray into incitement then there are UK laws for dealing with that. Contrary to popular opinion, Imams preaching hatred are deported if there is evidence to back it up.

The Human Rights Act will not prevent a deportation if it is justified.

I'd say that Political Correctness as it is today, meaning that free speech is a goner, even in jest, Illegal Murderers and Rapists can't be deported because of it, , grew out of the Human Rights Act,
It should be scrapped in its present form.
I agree that something similar should be there, but thought out by our own Politicians, for the benefit of this nations Nationals.
Whats happening in Italy, is desperation, I agree with it, just change one bit, they will deport any aliens the police say is a threat, i'd put in prove is a threat.
