Prague Public Transport

Going to Prague next Monday. Last time I went I was able to buy a 5 day bus/metro ticket from Tourist Information in the Airport. As it is my intention to get the 119 bus from the airport to Dejvicka metro and onwards to Prague centre I would like to know if these 5 day tickets are available from a machine at the airport or from the bus driver. I'm arriving early evening and assume that the Tourist Information Office closes at 6 or 7.00pm or thereabouts. It will be gone 7.00 by the time I complete landing formalities.

I've arrived in Prague at all sorts of odd times of the day and usually found the DPP ticket office in the airport concourse open, so you might be lucky. The bus drivers can only issue single-journey tickets. There are ticket machines at the airport which should sell you a multi-day transfer ticket.

Juat need to correct myself - the machines don't in fact issue multi-day tickets. BUT my friends in Prague tell me that all DPP (Prague public transport) ticket ofices are now open until at least 8pm, so you should be OK.

Thanks very much for your help Narolines. Scheduled arrival 6.15pm so should be OK for ticket purchase. Weather forecasts rain and fog but not too cold. Should find interesting things to do. Familiar with most of the touristy central Prague stuff so intend using public transport to visit Lidice and Karlstejn Castle. Getting there seems straightforward enough. Have you any off-the- beaten-track suggestions?

Hey I went in aug you can get the 5 day tickets things from the airport, dont know what time they open and close though!

Cesky Krumlov is a lovely little town, but it's either a long bus journey from Florenc or a convoluted train-trip with 2 changes - and I think the castle's closed after October 31. Melnik's a pleasant little place - it's at the confluence of the Vltava and the Elbe, about 40 minutes by bus, again from Florenc. If you're into marionettes, the National Puppet Museum at Chrudim is worth a visit - easily reachable by train from Hlavni Nadrazi. Not much of a town, though - very poorly provided with pubs/restaurants, and not really anything much else to see at this time of year.
