why have lots of smaller tremors per year apparently. I dont think it has anything to do with global warming. Thats why when we get an exceptionally an hot day or floods it will say "blah blah, hottest day in 100 years, coldest day in 53 years or worst flooding since 1927 for example, so to me, that says that this sort of thing has always happened way before global warming was even thought about. Just one of them freaky things that come around every so often. I just read that was the strongest quake in 25 years.
I'm pretty sure global warming is a misleading term. It means the temperature of the earth rising causing a change in seasons and messes about with temperature in genera (mild winters for example)l as opposed to just causing countries to having more heat waves I think.
At least that's been my understanding from reading some of the posts in Science on the subject but I suspect there's several in there who could give a much better answer.

It was bad here in Derby - scared the life out of me! I was asleep & was aware of a noise & thought my dog had come up & was running around & then I realised he's a 17lb spaniel not a ten ton mastiff, lol....then everything shook & rattled & I froze in panic, I've never felt a quake that strong in my lifetime! A neighbour rang to see if I was ok....I think she was terrified & wanted someone to talk to.
I think Earthquakes are caused by faults in the earth's core moving...I'll follow LoftiLottie & see if I can find out.

Late last night, I was sitting on the sofa quietly watching cable tv & heard a very unusual loud 'creaking' of the floorboards upstairs. The cat was fast asleep on my lap, but suddenly jumped up & ran off. I went upstairs to see if my husband was okay, but he was fast asleep.
I wondered at the time, if there was something eerie, or untoward going on, only to find this thread!
So, thanks 4getmenot - I wasn't imagining things!
