Skilled immigration
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7269790 .stm From today only skilled indiviuals from outside the EU will be allowed to enter the UK under a points system. The unskilled will be prevented and those here illegally will be repatriated. Many older (>45) British citizens are unable to continue in work usually because of age dicrimination even though it is said to be outlawed. Do you agree with these new rules? Or do you think that immigration should concentrate on employing unskilled immigrant workers and to deny foreign workers taking up most of the skilled vacancies? ie. a reverse of the new rules.

It's these skilled immigrants who will be most likely to change British culture.
They'll probably be higher-profile, more widely connected, wealthier and better educated than unskilled workers. Perfect for transmitting their ideas and values onto us.
Personally I'm fine with that - cultures evolve. But I know how scared some of you are by change.

It doesn't help the middle aged British skilled worker who has been made redundant and trying to find a new job. Strange they should bring out this idea when only last week they put a clamp on overseas doctors coming here because so many of our home grown doctors could not get work. Talking with a forked tongue!
