Newspapers
Can I have your opinions please on what the best UK newspaper is. I live in London and am trying to get into reading newspapers - but they all seem so focussed on scandals/'celebrities' and other whinging twaddle. I want to read something that keeps me up-to-date with world news and the bigger issues in society. Thanks :-)

Read them all on a rotating basis: 'The Sun' for a week.. 'The Express' for a week.. 'The Observer' the following week.. 'The (fill the blank) next week, and so on. Why? Well, since many papers are left, right, conservative, liberal, etc in their views and opinions, regulary alternating your choice of newspaper will prevent your thinking from becoming biased in any one direction and stop you developing a very narrow perspective.
I thoroughly recommend The Week - its a weekly magazine delivered to your door on a friday (not sure you can buy it in the shops) and its a round-up of British and foreign news from the previous week. Its concise, easy to read, and is split into all the usual newspaper sections such as news, sport, property, health etc. Definately no celebrity twaddle, but as I said not so serious its boring. It takes me 5 morning train journeys to work to get through it, just in time for the next issue. If you look on www.theweek.co.uk you can apply for 4 free issues, so give it a try.
