You need a sharp point to stab, There are other uses as well, but I would say ok ban the knives with sharp point. But then what about the sharp blade. People will start slashing throats instead of stabbing. So this is not the answer to the problem. Answer is in hanging few involved in these crimes.
Butchery knives need sharp points for penetrating meat, and also for boning, but other knives do not always require a point - it is perhaps just accepted design.
Selling round-ended knives is not the answer to knife crime - educating people to be nice to each other is what is needed, but that takes money so ...
the point of the knife enables you to start the cut or incision into the object or person who you choose (hopefully sensibly). i fully agree with people carrying knifes which are used as tools. i carry one of my swiss army pen knifes everywhere except when i go out to bars etc...
if i was carrying my hunting knife everywhere then i think i would have a problem. its designed for cutting flesh and has no place on the streets.
Well it helps when cutting my steak but I guess I could also technically stab someone with it too if I get annoyed and I'm eating out. Perhaps that's what they mean by mult-purpose.
I carried a sheath knife, a small axe, also a 6 foot staff when I was a Boy Scout. No harm was done with these "Weapons".
The cut-throat razor was the main weapon for gangs in days gone by. People mainly got slashed in those days, not very pleasant I know, but not often fatal.
