He tried British nationalism, now he's gone to Muslim nationalism. It's not new. Psychologists since the 1960s have observed that political extremists can change loyalty to another cause but stay fanatical. Communists may become Fascists and vice versa, but it would be unusual to find a fanatic who became a moderately minded woolly thinker.
