Perhaps the answer would be to bring back "The Black & White Minstel Show"?

I think the thing that is required on British telly is a bit of balance. You suggest that black people should be expected to be stereotyped.
But why?
It's not the 1970s.
You no longer see Scots on telly depicted as beer swilling tightwads.
You don't see the English portrayed as braying Hoorays.
You don't see much of any real stereotyping on telly because people are just become a bit more sophisticated.
...which is a good thing.
By the way, I don't agree that American films are patronising. There's a pretty well established black middle class in the US and film makers would be foolish to ignore that.
Yes, there are films like 'Hustle & Flow' but then there's also 'Waiting To Exhale'.
Bit of balance...that's what's needed. Not every black family is dyfunctional with a single mother and a drug dealing son, despite what certain papers would have you believe.

I suprised the Scots never complained about Rab C Nesbitt.
Hardly a good representation of Scotland and as far fetched as Farther Ted tended to be no complaints there either.
As stated no complaints about Desmonds either. (Loved it)
Over the years british people have been portrayed from Cockney 'gor blimey guv' to village idiots and upper class snotty know it alls.
But have you seen the way the Americans see us.
From Fraiser to Family Guy we are cowards and idoits.
I get really annoyed over there vision of us. But then we know its not true so we take it. Just like everyone with half a brain does.
So whats the problem? Oh yes expert nerk wanted their name in the papers.

I'm too busy forging passports/driving licences/diplomas/degrees etc to watch tv or join the police/forces/fire brigade or anything of benefit to this country.
I listen to bungla jungla music while I illicitly pick up taxi fares in my unlicensed, uninsured scrap car held together with string......and if I'm lucky a young, trusting white girl will get into my cab and I'll show her a 'good time' with more of my mates!
At the end of a hard day I go home to my village wife (arranged by mum) & 3 kids all on SS. My money is for drinking/gambling and the palace I'm building at my ethnic home.
GO ON AB,,,,,,,Bar me!
