Two of my favourite celebs have died.

The lovely funny Bernie Mac from the Ocean's 11 series and the talented Isaac Hayes.

What a lost!

I was just about to start a thread about Isaac Hayes .

The news of his death , takes me back to the first album I ever bought , which was his album , ' shaft ' - the music from which was used in the television series of the same name .

I agree - a sad loss of a talented musician - the epitomy of cool
Especially sad about Bernie Mac as it looked as if he'd just 'hit his stride' in terms of the roles he was getting.

He was by far the best thing in Ocean's 11.

Every time I have turned the radio or the TV on today, I have been informed that a chap called Isacc Hayes has died.

Quite frankly i don't think many will even know who he was, the media keeps telling us that he was famous for the no 1 single of a film called Shaft ????? and the voice of Chef in South Park???? Hardly record breaking stuff.

Yet on the other hand a guy called Frankie Laine died in 2007 aged 94, yet very little was made of his demise, I wonder why?

Frankie Laine still holds the record for the most weeks at number one, for one recording ("I Believe" 27 weeks) with Elvis Presley 18 weeks, The Beatles 16 weeks and ABBA 12 weeks. He also sang a number of title tracks for films & TV, Blazing Saddles, and Rawhide to name just a couple. He was still entertaining well into his eighties.

What else did he do????
yer I had to look him up whenj I saw it on teletext
not once have I heard on news about bernie mac.
and just looked him up I thought you were on about old guy in oceans
anotheoldgit - A search for Frankie Lane in Google brings up 847,000 results. The same search for Isaac Hayes brings up well over 2 Million results.

Evidently he was quite popular.

Incidentally, the theme from Shaft won him an Academy Award and two Grammies.

I can't remember what happened on Feb 6th 2007 [when Frankie Lane] died, but I do remember hearing about it.

I remember Frankie Laine's name coming up last year when James Brown died.

The problem that Frankie Laine had was that by the time he died, he'd been lost in the mists of time, along with contemporaries like Lonnie Donegan and Alma Cogan.

They would have to be rediscovered by a new generation, but their style of music doesn't have 'legs' - unlike people such as Matt Monroe, Ella Fitzgerald and Bobby Darin - all of whom still had a massive fan base when they passed on.

The only reason I've heard of Frankie Laine is because if his chart record...whereas most people I know (50 and under) know exactly who Isaac Hayes and Bernie Mac are because they were still working and part of 'the zeitgeist'.
