I've just heard that JKR is donating a huge amount of money to the Labour Party. I know its her money and she can do what she wants with it, but surely there are more worthy causes that she could donate to?

What do others think?

1) i dont have children yet and 'yes' when I do
2) I already avoid any shops or companies connected to Labour, some dont advertise the fact so I cannot avoid those but I try my best to 'read between lines with most things'

How typical a rich person who has become very rich under Labour supporting them. She can afford to vote Labour. I cannot. If she wants to be on the Honours list then this is the way to get there. Labour are responsible for the country being in debt to a level never seen before in the UK. Let's get them out. Then again......who do we put in? Will someone please call Barack Obama and tell him he can come and be our Prime Minister?

I remember the Labour legislation back in 1997 that ordered us all to rack up debts on our credit card.

We were only acting under orders. So it's not our fault.
They might as well have done so Quinlad. If we expect people to be responsible for getting themselves into debt then why don't we also make them responsible for being single parents? Or unemployed? Why help these people who have gotten themselves into trouble?

Under Labour debt has increased, personal and government. Why? Look at previous Labour governments, it is history repeating itself.

As for JK Rowling, she should have given the money to charity, not a political party.
To Quinlad

And their kids heaved a massive sigh of relief."

"Oh and your own yacht.

Her achievement must have inspired almost 9 people to follow in her footsteps. "

I bet Ellen Macarthur or whatever her name is supports Labour. She has the face of a Labour supporter.
Politics petty rubbish - Nearly as petty as all you jealous people who want to tell a rich person how to spend thier money.

She would have been rich under the Tories and not all single parents want to be, still its a broad brush and you can tar everyone with it.
"If we expect people to be responsible for getting themselves into debt then why don't we also make them responsible for being single parents?"

Because we believe in giving children a start in life.

"Or unemployed?"

Not everyone is unemployed through any fault of their own. The more vulnerable members of society find that employers don't want them because they're too old, or lacking in social skills or of low intelligence. Any benefits system worth its salt makes sure that these people don't slip through the net.
Good for JK Rowling. She is someone who wants to see a fairer society. Many charities have also benefitted from her donations.

Yachting has now become the sport of the people, thanks to Ellen McArthur.

I hope what..the? doesn't starve to death!
