at least you get proper winters, Clanad. Brits just get 12 months of drizzle - the only way you can tell the seasons is that it's darker in winter. I think the southern hemisphere may be on the cards for me this winter.

I have just been out for a lunch time stroll and it's a beautiful day...sadly though I'm sure it won't last! Mind you I love the Autumn!

doing my best, Clanad, newly retired and loving it! It was Open House day at the weekend (I believe NYC now do something similar) so I spent two days visiting medieval barns, Elizabethan manor houses, art deco theatres and the like. Highly enjoyable. (Never used to be able to do it because I worked weekends.)

I've left a few congratulations on various threads when you first mentioned the retirement... I sincerely hope you are able to do all the things you couldn't before... Travel well!

many thanks, Clanad... twice the time, half the money. Considering the rocketing air fares I may see less of the USA than I used to, which is a pity; I've still not seen the Midwest or the Mississippi, except at New Orleans and Natchez. And one of my former colleagues speaks highly of her home state, Tennessee, which I've also never visited... I'd put jno jnr out to work sweeping chimneys to make a bit of extra money but as he's now 25 and taller than most chimneys, this mightn't be a success.
