I think, given the circumstances, that you are perfectly entitled to feel pretty agrieved with the cards life has dealt you.
I also think that a small amount of self-oity is healthy as part of your recovery and new direction - as long as it doesn;t get out of hand.
So allow yourself to feel cast adrift for a little bit, and then your natural instincts and drivve will kick in again - youo mnust have them to be an oceanographer, and I am a freelance writer, and I know how much drive and persistence that takes!
Give yourself a time limit - say a couple of weeks, and from that date, decide you will get your house, your employment, and your mind in order.
That should do the trick.
Good luck.
