Karen Matthews does appear to be presenting a c rap defence. Unlike you, I hope the little girl is saved from further trauma and does not have to give evidence against her mother. There is plenty of evidence against the two accused.

I suspect the mother and Uncle will be sent away for a lot shorter term than you are hoping for.

Unfortunately this country has a penal system which is way too soft and there are people who think that a jail sentence is enough punishment for these animals and that they should be able to start afresh once they have served their time

I think Elvis was saying that some of these criminals are getting the chance to start a "new" life once they come out of prison..i.e new name and life etc. No real consequences for their actions. Karen Matthews has apparently not just committed "fraud" like advertising something ( that is not it's true worth,for sale)....she used the misery of countless other parents,who have been in the real awful situation of their children going missing,and many times are found dead....to try and work up a "reward" sum for her child..that she knew to be perfectly safe!! I think "fraud" is a very mild way to describe Karen Matthews crime.

There were a few other children too in that house - I wonder where they all are now. The only comfort I took from this awful story was that I think Shannon was safe enough with the man who had her. She was restricted in her movements but was taken out and I am sure he was nice to her. Ahe had games etc. Imagine if it had been a real kidnap.
