And putting footage of the event on YouTube just makes it even sadder.

I hope the police negotiators are faring okay - it must have been a traumatic experience for them.

I hope they prosecute everyone they can identify as "cheering him on"

yes it is a very sad reflection
If I kept telling you to jump off a cliff, would you? This idiot was probably determined to take his life whether a crowd was egging him on or not.
no I wouldn't, but I'm not suicidal!, do you really think if somebody was suicidal they would benefit more from calming down from a professional, or a jeering crowd telling them to "get on and jump"
Amber - this was not an "idiot", this was a suicidal teenager.
One of the detectives said he thought some of the bystanders in question went home that night and took a good hard look in the mirror and didn't like what they saw.

I'm not so confident.....
I can't really understand why architects cannot make car parks and other such structures less likely to attract suicide attempts. It would only take a few twinks for it less possible for emotionally disturbed people to be unable to hurl themselves from a height...it is so sad for lives to be lost needlessly when the person might eventually calm down
As for the people who shout for people to jump, I think they are really despicable. Even if they think they will shock the person into reconsidering, that is still really disgraceful....
Amber63 you are the old biddy, with an atitude out of the ark
londonlove - jumping from a height is only one way to commit suicide. If someone wasn't able to do it that way, they would use another method. Unfortunately there is no way to create a world where suicides cannot happen.

In my short lifetime I have seen society nose-dive in terms of social responsibility, morality and general adherence to the law.

Generally in the last 11 years and 8 months.

Work it out.
I hope the police negotiators are faring okay - it must have been a traumatic experience for them.

Maybe not.

I once knew a traffic policeman who was regularly called to fatal road accidents. He told me that there were many occasions where he attended accidents where all occupants of a vehicle had perished. He told me that they learned not to become emotional about it or they wouldn't be able to do their job.

He said that as soon as they left the scene thay had to forget all about it or it would send you round the bend.

Well said birdie
I think the CPS needs to issue the police a little guidance on these things.

It is an offence to encourage someone to commit suicide.

Next time it happens we need the police to arrest a few of these people - a few well reported prosecutions might go a long way to cutting down on this sort of behaviour

By the way Amber there was a plane crash in New York - if you try really hard I'm sure you can blame the Government for that too!
how can people blame the government for the way society is going, are these things not happening in france the USA, Australia and virtually every other country in the world

amber63 - seeing a dead body is one thing, I have dealt with dead bodies all my working life.

Watching someone commit suicide after you have engaged with them intensely for 90 minutes is another thing altogether - especially when your job is to talk them down.
Shocking and disgraceful indeed Ethel. Amber 63-are you for real?
Well it would appear we have just that sort of person here on this site in this thread.
Amber63 Lets hope that no members of your family find themselves in this much desperation that they consider this course of action.
What cruel thing to say.
The people in that crowd probably turned up at the pup after it appeared on the evening news and bragged about it.
Are you that sort of person Amber.
Kick a dog while it's down and then brag about it to your mates.

Horselady.....she is for real. You only have to read her answers in other sections to see that.
