Why is everyone condemning her as racist, when nobody knows which player she was talking about and therefore whether the player does in fact bear resemblance to a golliwog?

How about being called a White Honky at school?

CJ242 - have you ever heard the word 'p@ki' used affectionately? Or like me, do you associate it with gangs in the 80's who used the suffix '-bashing' with it?

Also if the word really IS short for Pakistani, could you explain why it's used for a general catch-all for all Asians?

Formless, my guess is that you were probably called a LOT worse than 'white honky'.
I go to my local P-k- shop a lot. Londis. It is a term of affection.

sp - I think you have a large chip on your shoulder about white heterosexuals.
Due - that should've read Gormless, not Formless.

Difficult typing on an iPod keypad.

And I was joking by the way. Just like Carol.
That's comforting to know sp.
Chip on <my shoulder?

I admire you cheek.

Take a look back at you posts. You're the one who repeatedly states that BMEs are going to sue. You're the one who shouts traitor to those who disagree with you.

When someone challenges you, you don't have an answer. So go one - engage. Rather than shouting one-liners, join the debate.
Oops - after saying that, I've just seen the time. Got to turn in now.

Enjoy.
In areas such as this there isno such thing as a debate because the outcome is pre-determined.

I just throw orange peel from the touchline.
CJ, Thanks. I dread to think where it will end. Scary innit?!

There's a thread on S&C at this moment about people who don't like people with ginger hair, and Velvetee's just mentioned name-calling at school, How many people suffered that for one reason or another? Plenty - and not just people from ethnic minorities, but people who were skinny or fat, or had big noses, cauliflower ears, goofy teeth or spots, or who were too clever or too dim - you name it - there are few who have never been ridiculed or derided in one way or another. For heaven's sake, people. With all this ridiculous pussyfooting on eggshells, we're turning into a nation of pathetically whinging wimps who cry 'foul' at every opportunity, and are practically afraid to breath for fear of causing offence - something that because people cry 'foul' at every opportunity is very easily done these days. People who take offence at the slightest thing need to sort themselves out, deal with it, and get over it, as those of us who have truly grown up, have.

Oh dear me, oh dear dear me, BBC news at 11:15pm, a huge issue is being made over Carole Thatcher and the solitary word "golliwog".

Black experts interviewed, general hysteria, Britain has slid into incredulity.
here here gormless i just hope Diane Abbott doesn't call anybody white uk citizen "white trash" on this week prog
all hell will break loose.
I still have my ******** badge (from 50 years ago) and have emailed my son to see if he still has his treasured golliwog doll. I have no hatred for black people (or coloured as used to be the pc term) now that black is pc
If you speak to Asians, whether Chinese, Japanese or whatever and ask them for the literal translation of their terms for western foreigners, they reluctantly explain that "hairy baboon" or whatever is just an expression and does not signify disrespect!
I was censored for saying Gollywo* badge
Come on. 'I didn't mean to cause offence', or 'I meant it in a jokey, affectionate way' is not an acceptable excuse. I could call your Gran a 'lovely old c*nt' in a delightfully film school east end Ray Winstone kind of way. And mean it. But she'll be horrified and offended. Ther's not one person on here who's going to have read the thread and thought, 'Blimey, I've never heard of people taking offence at that word before'. We're all aware of basic social rules of etiquette, we know what kind of words are offensive.
McMouse,

That is because Answerbank has a filter for words that are offensive, and Goll **** is considered offensive. The filter is not initiated by the PC Brigade, or killjoys or the hypersensitive, it is deployed by Internet website companies who do not want to unduly offend the public and their users. Just because it does not offend you does not mean it is not offensive. If you look the word golliwog up on an online dictionary such as encarta, the fact that the doll and word are offensive is clearly labelled. The golliwog is often referred to as a grotesque character.
Cheese Gromit!
Alot of you people here, with specifically racist comments need to join the BNP website. This post is reported.
naomi, spot on.
