why don't we declassify religion to a pass time? this would cover people who have no religion instead of making them feel left out. after all, it is something alot of Christians only practice on their day off (Sunday)

There are thousands of couples who decide to get married in a church, and then go on to have their children baptised in church. And even very many chose to attend church on a Sunday. But then perhaps not in the crowd you hang around with.

And yes we are still a Christian country......

The Royal Family go to church.

Their Coronations take place under Christian ceremony

The Lords & Commons chambers are open with prayers (do members of other faiths step outside during prayers)?

Glad you brought up the Royal familly because as I recall Charles expressed an interest in being called defender of the faiths (plural)

I object to the way that our traditional places of worship have been torn down and relaced by these garish new buildings.

I don't even know where my local henge is anymore. They seem to have ben replaced by these new-fangled 'churches'.

I'm a Christian but not a church goer. Christianity is a way of life and has I think differing values and tenets to other beliefs. May I stress I say differing - not better or worse.

Well the Lords Spirital were removed for 20 years in the 17th C, so no doubt it could be done again. They don't normally vote on matters of law or state anyway so it would seem to be a token gesture - not sure what would really be greatly achieved, but I'm all for it.

They serve no tangible modern day function and ordinarily do not exercise their voting powers. So any lobbying or parliamentary opinion could be just as easily conveyed from outside the House.

The United Kingdom should be a secular country. The Church or any other religious body should not be allowed to interfere with the running of the country. Why the church still has this influence, when its adherents have dwindled so much is down to historical reasons which no longer apply. They don't do anything they are just symbolic of the past.
