'The central goal of my immigration policy is to provide the assurance to the public that we know who's here and who's not here.'
Who does this guy think he is kidding?
Since it is now becoming obvious that a very large majority (eight out of ten) of British people want all unemployed foreign migrants to leave the UK..
Should there now be a debate in the Commons, with the intention of getting a motion passed to bring this about?
Australia seems to be taking strong action:

Even Poland:

Why are we always the last, to wake up and smell the coffee?

Since when have this labour government taken any sort of action on anything?
Ever since Blair came to power they have been all talk and no action.
Blair and his "tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime". Well it is certainly a lot safer to walk the streets now isnt it (NOT!).
If Brown REALLY wanted to make the public warm to him the best thing he could do is list say 10 initiatives AND STICK TO THEM.
These initiatives could be plans for massive regneration projects to improve run down areas of the country, or plans to remove half a million illegal immigrants, plans to double the police on the streets and so on.
Instead of all giving all our money to Pakistan or Africa spend some on US for once.
As you say, it seems every other country is doing something about immigration, we just contnue to take the scum of the world.

I have a similar post going anotheroldgit, I agree with all of what you are saying, I am fed up with the situation, our country is in the depths of a recession, yet we are syill paying for these imigrants..... Poles are heading back home (now) there economy has started to grow, I was there last year but only for a visit, what with people like the Poles sending money home, we are Mugs!!! on the flip side, Poles tend to be good workers, we seem to have bred a bunch of lazy gits!
I see No 10 is advertising for an individual paying 100,000 to get its policies through the holdups that are occurring in the system. About time too! Then maybe many of these announced schemes can move from the drawing board into reality.
If they are a listening government, and they say they are, then the two major problems stand out. That is immigration and jobs. Talk about the bank rescues, and bonuses paid to bankers take a back seat.
