The Hillsbrough disaster
I was outside the ground at the time leading up to the disaster and what I saw were hundreds maybe thousands of drunken Liverpool supporters hellbent on getting into the ground. I neither want to support or denigrate the police force but I'm sure they hadn't a cat in hell's chance of stopping that mob. Does anyone share that opinion.

Yes the old bill were lacking but scoucers had alot to answer for too.
Oh, and no drunken Liverpool fans? Hahahahahahahaha Dream on.
Lets face it, this was a terrible disaster but why do we have to lay the blame at just the authorities?

Glad it's not just me who thinks this, while I don't doubt that failures by the police resulted in deaths the pure simple fact is it was Liverpool supporters (I won't resort to calling them names) turned up without tickets and then attempted to get access to the ground when they had no right to.
If those fans without tickets were not there that day the disaster would never have happened, it doesn't get any simpler than that I'm afraid.

What none of you seem to understand is that there was a massive crush at the turnstiles way before ten to three. We got to the turnstiles for 20 past 2, but were almost killed in the crush to get in. There had been a police operation the year before which channelled the fans somehow so that this didn't happen. It was not in operation on this day. When we were eventually pulled from the crush into the area behind the stand the only place that was obvious to go was the tunnel. Luckily for us I decided I needed the loo before the game and it was only on coming out of the loo that I saw a couple of people heading to the side of the stand and we followed them, ending up in a pen next to one of the ones where people died. And this was probably quarter to 3 by this time.
So the crush outside just kept getting worse and worse and people were honestly going to die before they even got in the ground. That was why the police opened the gates, and the only place that you could see when you got through them was the tunnel.
And of course people were going to rush in, the game was about to start. Perhaps if the game had been delayed and announcements were made to this effect then there wouldn't have been the same rush to get into the ground. All I can say is it was a horrifying day which still gives me nightmares.

To everyone thank you for all your replies and clearly we have different thoughts and opinions. To you Spudqueen you clearly had a terrifying experience and I hope before long the nightmares disappear.
I would like this subject to close now but I would also like to hear at least one of "the ticketless invaders" to say " Yes I was partly responsible"

Why do the brainless morons like 'ri geezer or whatever he is bother? seriously man you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about! Yes people tried to get in late..but guess what? thats happened before and had been dealt with!! it happens today! what these idiots fail to remember is what the so called 'brave bobbies did afterwards!!....NOTHING! do you not remember seeing those horrendous pictures in the press the next day? where people were squashed so tightly agaings the fence..they died there?? you must remember them? if not google it..if you know how!! well guess what? the people who tok those photos saw exactly what the police saw! in fact the police were closer than that, because many fans were famously pushed back in!! now..do you or anyone care to explain that one? thruth is you cant because you or anyone who really are stupid and naive to believe that 'ticketless scum' are to blame, obviously dont have the brains you were born with. such an idiot!
Philk - I said it was a terrible tradegy
You seem to conveniently forget the scousers who broke into the heysel stadium before 39 italians died
Plus the Scousers who tried to storm the stadium in Athens for the Champions league final.
Several factors were to blame for the deaths INCLUDING Liverpool fans

Just remind me Philk1, How many people without tickets tried to force their way in?? Ahh penny droped yet has it? You are the kn0b mate if you cannot grasp the basic facts.
Can one of you, "lets blame anyone but the prople that caused this" mob, please tell me if there would have been this problem without 20000 ticketless scum trying to force their way in? No amount of hand wringing drivel and oh so girly same calling can change the basic facts.

P!ssed off to read and hear about the police being to blame. it`s 50/50..there`s a lot of Liverpool fans who were there on the day outside the ground who were trying to get in at the last minute and when the police opened up the gates they all rushed to the entrance behind the goal....the innocent fans were the ones who got there early
