I'm watching "Madeleine was here" a documentary following the disappearance of Madeleine McCan. There seems to be something odd about Jerry McCan, he seems kind of cold.

He was filmed in the hospital where he works as a Cardiologist and I thought his bedside manner was dire. He seemed totally uninterested in his patients. It's all a very bizarre situation, parents leaving their small children home alone whilst they go out and have fun.

totally and it wasnt the first time they left them alone. Besides if a single no income parent left her child alone social services would be right in there. Sadly they learned by their biggest mistake the loss of their daughter. They don't deserve to be parents in my eyes
They all seemed to contradict each other and say different things to what they had said previously. I remember Jane Tanner saying that the child in the man's arms was in a blanket, but now it was just in pj's. All very strange.
They don't seem to realise that if they had not neglected their children it wouldn't have happened so why are they blaming the police. And this new stranger was apparently watching the apartement 3 days before they arrived!! Also to anyone's eye it is obvious that he window shutter was not forced.
I don't believe the parents had anything to do with her disappearance - nor any of their fellow diners that evening. There will always be contradictions, since people remember things differently (and it would have been a rather chaotic scene when she was discovered missing). It's possible that Gerry McCann is "numb" with grief and not "cold" as some might perceive him to be.

I have always had a feeling in my gut that she is still alive out there somewhere. I hope I am right.
Must admit it is all slightly strange- many facts do not really add up- many anomalies. Bizarre also that they never used the babysitting service that was provided free of charge with the complex that they were staying at? My parents never left us for a second when we were on holiday. Find myself protective of other people's children + remember staying for over five minutes besides a car left with a baby in the car to make sure no one would take the baby away. Cannot understand how some parents can be so reckless. Have no children of own yet have a far more responsible attitude towards child care than many parents seem to have. Children are very precious + it upsets me greatly to hear of cases where children have been treated neglegently, abused or even killed. Hope the truth wil come out soon with this case, also. Good thread Velvetee!
It is all very convoluted.

But the fact remains...........................

No matter who's fault it is, or isn't, they have lost their daughter.
It's very easy to throw stones. Those of you whose child(ren) has died or missing may understand why Jerry McCan seems cold.
One can't just switch off some feelings and leave others as normal, and believe me, in order to get through something like this one has to switch off feelings because some things just hurt too much to allow even a little emotion to breach the dam because one would drown in the flood that follows.
Stop trying to be judge and jury on this because even if the couple were wrong in what they did, their loss and suffering is just as great.
I'm in agreement with MWB and Madmaggot, none of us know (least I hope we don't) what it is to lose a child or how we'll react.

Just because he's calm and composed on screen and in the papers, it doesn't necessarily mean he is in private. Would you prefer he was weeping and wailing like Karen Matthews did?
BOO, I have and I do.
Oh christ Madmaggot, you've lost a child?

I'm so very very sorry- cannot begin to imagine what that's like and I hope I never have to.

No idea what to say now- so I'll say sorry again...
I really disagree.. do you expect him to be singing and dancing around work?
This poor family can do no right in some peoples eyes. Lest we forget they conceived all their children thru IVF... they were all desperately wanted and loved.
maybe 'cold' should be interpreted as'numb'
What can possibly excite him or please him or make him happy within knowing his child was taken.

It really upsets me to hear people continually blame them. The police here know they were being targetted. Did Jamie Bulgers mother neglect her son..no she left him for a second in a shop with her back turned///
NETIBIZA:

''They don't seem to realise that if they had not neglected their children it wouldn't have happened''

I think you are completely wrong. Do you seriously think that there is one moment of any day that they stop beating themselves up about the fact that they left her. People can blame them all they want but I really don't think anyone could make them feel any more guilt than they did that moment they found her gone. OF COURSE they know they shouldn't have left her, but hindsight's a wonderful, yet tragic thing.
