I've read this week that various bodies are annoyed because they will have to pay big increases in Rain Tax, particularly the Church of England. I don't think it's actually called the Rain Tax, but that's how they refer to it. Apparrently the size of the roof on a building is part of the calculation, e.g. the bigger the roof, the more water will run off it and require larger drains etc. Larger companies pay a higher rate but the latest move means that voluntary clubs and organisations could be hit by massive increases in this tax. Does anyone know anything more about it? Will it affect you or your club?

Why pay a tax for producing huge quantities of a raw material, so that the Water Companies can then turn it into a product that they already charge us dearly for?
Actually you can't blame the Government on this one, they're on your side

One of the problems that has aggravated certain flodding is the development of large amounts of land.

Areas that previously absorbed large amounts of water and slowly released it into rivers and streams like a sponge have been built over and the rain that hits it runs off immediately into the drains and is emptied into rivers in one go.

That means a lot of rivers are now subject to much more sudden rushes of water and beefing up the defenses has to be paid for.

BUT - are local sports clubs and charities the biggest culprits?

Seems pretty unlikely doesn't it?

And the Government thinks it's unlikely too.
