Ronald Biggs injured
Train robber due to be released on 3rd July is in hospital after a fall.
Family hope he will be home to celebrate his 80th birthday in August - shame the family of the train driver won't have him home to celebrate his birthday.
Barnet council will be paying his keep when he comes out - shouldn't have spent all his share living it up abroad.

whether or not Biggs was ultimately responsible for the train drivers death is debateable - he was involved with a vicious crime and the train driver and his family suffered tremendously as a result. There is no excuse for Biggs's behavious - it was an atrocious crime and totally inexcuseable. He doesn't deserve to be mamby pambyed and given any consideration - the gang gave no concern to their victims- what goes around comes around - we should all be held accountable for and not excused for our behaviour. Biggs is a criminal and had no consideration for his victims.
We had a thread on here about Biggs a few months ago and, because of the emotions the man evokes, it's somewhat difficult to remain dispassionate regardless of which stance you take.
I'm not a member of his fan club simply because he cheated justice for so long and spent the prime of his life in splendid "exile" mainly in Brazil, partly in Australia.
Then, when he's found to be ailing and in poor health, a deal is done to return him to the UK to become a burden to the taxpayer for the remainder of his days.
He hasn't in my view repaid his proverbial debt to society, he has simply been allowed to abuse the system to his advantage.

scarecrow - get in the real world - coshing a train driver for monetary gain is unforgiveable. Biggs was a member of a gang condoning outlandish brutality - he is a proven thug and in my opinion only worthy of whatever befalls him. If your family had been affected, would you still be of the same opinion? Be careful here with your answer because not all crime victims are as forgiving as you.

Biggs should die in prison, when his health was ruder so was he.
I still remember seeing him dance naked on the beach in Brazil in a Sex Pistols feature film.
He's not a hero, he's not an icon, he's a thief and a thug.
Anyone can be a thief, anyone can be a thug, you don't need talent to aspire to his career, you don't need balls either, just a natural contempt of other people and the law of the land.
As a nation we need to decide which men to lionise and promote.
You can't have the likes of Kate Kray (spit) writing books like "Hard Bast ards" (Volumes 1 and 2) canonising the like of Dave Courtenay (wnaker) and Johnny "Mad Dog" Adair (vile piece of scum) serialised in the Sunday People and appearing on Channel 5s "Wright Stuff" and then witness the sme media pontificate about the casual violence and decay in our society.

What I can never uhderstand is,why did Biggs return volutarily to the UK after so long in Brazil,(and given the aborted abduction in 1981,)after which the Police stated they would no longer attempt to extradite him.
.He has 5 children
Nicholas, Christopher, Farley Paul, Michael who it would seem did little (or nothing ) to discourage him.
His son,Michael, was reported to have been paid 20,000 by the Sun for the story(which is given as another reason for his return).
Biggs is aid to have returned so he could "walk into a Margate pub as an Englishman and buy a pint of bitter". Quite how he hoped to do this, knowing as he did that he would be arrested on return is anyone's guess.
I get the feeling that he is very naive.
Yes,you may say he is old and frail,I suppose you would use that argument if Gary Glitter, Rosemary West ,Peter Sutcliffe,Animal Rights Extremists or Drug Barons were up for parole?
Personally,I think (as he returned voluntarily) he should remain in prison until the end of his life.
