A total of 175 British servicemen and 1 women have died in Afghanistan since the start of operations in 2001, and it is only now that a leading politician has put his head above the parapet and finally admitted what most of us have been saying from the start, 'the present strategy is just not working'.

On what planet do our politicians live? They should take it in turns to do a stint out there, perhaps then the realities will soon become more clear to them?

9 UK deaths in as many days The last Soldier who died was 18 he had just finished his training and had been there for 2 weeks ,on the local news they described the Land Rovers that are used as Farm Vehicles,Years ago If you joined up you would travel the world ,mayby be posted to Nothern Ireland,the life in the services was always advertised as fun ,adventure sea ,sand and sex ,what is the tag line of the Adverts now,I do understand sons follow in there fathers footsteps ,but this is so different the Afgans are mountain people they live hard lives, they live in caves they have nothing to loose ,they have been fighting like this for all their lives .

Whilst we should rightly honour all the 179 UK troops killed in Afghanistan, we should also pay tribute to all the NATO losses.

How about all the oridinary afghans who are not terrorists? Many of them have been killed too. They had no choice.

As a pacafist I will not uspport war.............however if a country does make the decision to war it has an obligation to the troops to provide them with the means and equipment to win.

That means suspension of the Geneva Convention or any other agreement that will bring the conflict to a successful outcome. That may sound harsh but I think only a full commitment to a cause is fruitful.

Suspension of the Geneva Convention

Since a Declaration of War has not been officially announced, the rules of War do not need to be honoured.

All the rules presently adhered to are only rules of engagement on humanitarian grounds.

Since the other side does not even recognise these rules, then they do not deserve any considerations whatsoever.
