It wouldn't bother me, because I think that if it stops a bomber getting on the aircraft, it's a good thing. I'm 70 anyway, so no-one's going to be pinning my photo up on the staff canteen wall. However, a lady who was asked this question on my local radio station this morning, said that she wouldn't allow her two young children to go through the scanner. She's worried that porn merchants might get hold of the pictures.
If it improves the hell that is security nowadays at airports, then I'd have no objection.
I do feel Geezer has a fair point - we know the fanatics get all swivel eyed about anybody seeing an ankle under a burkha, so I look forward to seeing the backlash from a certain sector of the community if these machines are installed at all airports.
Still, its pretty simple really - if you don't go through you don't fly.

I imagine that it's optional.
I don't think this increases the reliability greatly what it does do is speeds up security because you don't have to take off your shoes, you belt your jacket. etc. etc. etc.
If you want to increase reliability you'd probably want to introduce sniffer dogs and explosive sensors and the sort of technology that's used on suitcases but that would slow down security check in.
It's a delicate balance

On the website guardian,co.uk there is an article about this scanner, together with pictures that were taken by said scanner. If pictures can be transferred from the scanner to the internet, how does that tie in with ummmm's statement that the pictures are not stored? The pictures that I saw on my PC earlier today were credited to Dave Thompson of PA. The head of customer experience at Manchester Airport said: "The images ... cannot be stored or captured in any way." yet there it is, for all to see, a picture of a naked guy on the internet.
