No....they can't see your face.
If we do this the terrorists have won! I've said in the past that we'll be going through b0llock naked before long! another Geezer prediction!
-- answer removed --
Personally no, but I can understand people who would object.
so presumably this includes muslim women too! right oh! Stand well back on that one!
Geezer, give yourself a badge for mentioning Muslims.
That's an excellent point Geezer. That should be interesting.

Personally, I'd feel embarrassed, but I'd cope!
It wouldn't bother me, because I think that if it stops a bomber getting on the aircraft, it's a good thing. I'm 70 anyway, so no-one's going to be pinning my photo up on the staff canteen wall. However, a lady who was asked this question on my local radio station this morning, said that she wouldn't allow her two young children to go through the scanner. She's worried that porn merchants might get hold of the pictures.
I would have no problem using this scanner - seems like an excellent innovation in improving security to me, and also hopefully an innovation that would speed up the boarding process.
The pictures are not stored.
Geezer's point is actually very valid. If this is to catch terrorists, and at present fundamentalist Muslims are the problem, what is the point if they (undoubtedly) will get an exception.

Dont suppose many others will be bothered, especially if you are hung like a donkey !
If it improves the hell that is security nowadays at airports, then I'd have no objection.

I do feel Geezer has a fair point - we know the fanatics get all swivel eyed about anybody seeing an ankle under a burkha, so I look forward to seeing the backlash from a certain sector of the community if these machines are installed at all airports.

Still, its pretty simple really - if you don't go through you don't fly.
Actually, if trials have already started at Manchester airport, I wonder what they are doing about the Muslim women. Anyone know?

I imagine that it's optional.

I don't think this increases the reliability greatly what it does do is speeds up security because you don't have to take off your shoes, you belt your jacket. etc. etc. etc.

If you want to increase reliability you'd probably want to introduce sniffer dogs and explosive sensors and the sort of technology that's used on suitcases but that would slow down security check in.

It's a delicate balance

Actually don't El Al require you to have an interview with a security officer before getting on a plane?

Takes ages - anybody flown with them?
Wouldn't bother me. I'm in good shape. I have no problem showing off.
If it\'s optional, I can\'t imagine many people volunteering - except maybe SP. ;o)

I\'ve flown with El Al - a long time ago - and I was given the third degree. Getting through security took ages.
It is optional at the moment. I'd go through it if it was quicker.
Ooer - I'm getting backslashes with my apostrophes! Another new innovation of AB perhaps?
On the website guardian,co.uk there is an article about this scanner, together with pictures that were taken by said scanner. If pictures can be transferred from the scanner to the internet, how does that tie in with ummmm's statement that the pictures are not stored? The pictures that I saw on my PC earlier today were credited to Dave Thompson of PA. The head of customer experience at Manchester Airport said: "The images ... cannot be stored or captured in any way." yet there it is, for all to see, a picture of a naked guy on the internet.
