Words sometimes fail even me

http://news.bbc.co.uk...ancashire/8362815.stm

Had tears in my eyes when I read this paragraph...

"The four-year-old girl had tried to feed the baby by using chairs to climb up to a kitchen cupboard and reach a tin of milk powder."

Then it goes on to say that she found life "extremely stressful" partly due (I assume?) to having 4 children by 3 different fathers......

She might have told them a baby sitter was on the way. I doubt she would have told the truth.

Androcles....The effects of wine would start wearing off in a few hours...cocaine in about 20 mins. She left them for how long?

24 hours Ummmm. I'm also of the mind that if it wasn't for the fact that her step father turned up at her house that she'd have been gone a hell of a lot longer.
Same as my shop...it's scary though. That's why I can't understand how someone could leave children for that long when we panic doing it for minutes.

I still don't like to leave my 13 year old but he insists that he doesn't want to come to B&Q with us....
Did the step father grass her? Good on him....
It's reassuring the children are with their grandparents now - but where were they earlier in all this? They cannot have been totally unaware of what was going on, surely.
B00, according to the reports, she was in a long-term relationship with the father of two of the children, which had recently broken up. Despite all the fevered criticism she's getting here, I don't see any evidence at all that she was massively promiscuous or that she didn't know who the fathers were.

Booldawg, it's well known that the courts will prefer to give custody to mothers; but does anyone know if this happened in this case? I'm still curious to know if the court made any attempt to enquire whether the fathers have taken any responsibility for their kids here.

he must have Ummmm, apparently he called round and saw the little girl hanging out the livingroom window crying and asking where her mummy was.

God, im welling up thinking about it, im so soft!

As for where the grandparents were beforehand, no idea.

And yes you're right jno (I do hate it when you're sensible!)

however, I can't help but think the worst about her personal life when i'm faced with what she did. I hardly think she was a pillar of society beforehand do you?
It could have been a one off....how would the Grand parents know anyway? You don't go checking on your kids to make sure they are looking after theirs every evening...
No, maybe they genuinely had no idea what was going on. I'm not trying to put any blame on the grandparents, but aware or not - they must feel pretty awful right now though.
I expect you're right, B00. But I still think it's tough she has to carry the can (and take all the abuse) while three other parents are getting off scot free.

Sqad, when lions take over as head of the pride, the first thing they do is kill all the cubs, so their own will have no competition. Bad luck on the lionesses who've been trying to bring up the kids. Would you defend humans who did this, on the grounds that it's 'biology'? Or do you think humans can train themselves to live a bit better than animals do?
jno

"Or do you think humans can train themselves to live a bit better than animals do?"

There is little evidence that they can so far.
I'd be too scared to leave my little one at home. It's not the havoc that kids can cause, it's more what if something happens to me - stabbing, run over or whatever (how paranoid does that sound) - and then she'd be at home alone and no one would know about it. I'm not having a go at you Boo honest!,
