////The upward trend in the prison population started after WWII ////
Indeed it did but the explosive rise is clearly seen starting in 1995.
What we need now is a graph, showing the influx of immigrants and comparing it to the graph mentioned above and then we will be in a position to assess the effect of immigration on prison population.

Sqad
After 1997, Labour started to get tough and send more people to prison. Before that, the Tories were soft. Under Labour we have 30,000 more people in Prison. It has been suggested that as politicians talk tough on crime, and the terror threat is cranked up, that sentences get less lenient and longer.
However, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that prison does not stop re-offending.

I couldn't care a "toss" about re-offending, I just want the villains out of society for a spell....makes me feel safer.

Well as sqad and I kn ow for a fact, the immigrants who are living in the Balearic Islands, come from a different background to us, and think nothing of breaking into places to get what they want and attacking anyone to get it. In several instances locally older people have been held in their homes whilst these foreigners ransack the place and they have injured the house owners!
Obviously not all foreigners are the same, after all Sqad and I are foreigners and up to now we have not had to resort to robbery or violence, but believe me, if I catch one in my house I'll wallop the bugger!!!
