That combined with reading the Daily Mail explains why the same miserable old farts keep posting their usual "the country's gone to the dogs" twaddle in this topic.

The link is statistical and probably not deniable. The conclusions you draw can be debated though.

It is perfectly possible that those who are depressed tend to find it easier to interact with the world via a PC than to deal with it directly. Which would skew the figures and show a link. That doesn't mean that all those who use the Net, or even all those who know they are on it more than they'd like to admit, have a problem with depression though.
Being Depressed and being a Miserable Old Fart (MOF) are two entirely different things.

The MOFs are actually at their happiest when they have something to rile about. If you denied them their right to rant, then they would be depressed.

These health scares are not what they used to be.
One could say that 99% of postings on the News topic are rants, even this particular post.

We are all allowed to have our own individual comments (good or bad) on various news reports, that is the whole idea of the news site.

But some people like to criticise in a rude and offensive manner, if others particular views don't fit in with the status quo.

In other words follow blindly with the rest of the sheep and you don't upset anyone.

End of "RANT" .
