Hague Lied
How can we ever believe anything this future Cabinet Minster says?
Should he now be forced to go before the House of Lords standards committee again?

It's not down to Hague if Ashcroft doesn't in fact become a tax payer. Come you of all people should see that way that's been handled by the media. Ok I'm going to introduce a new mmber to my club who's a big drinker, if he joins I promise he'll drink 10 pints a night, am I a liar if he does not end up joining?
Talking of pledges - shall we see how many of the following are carried out should the 'Conservatories’ get in

I can just see the arguements after the first term in office , ( given the subjectiveness of some of these pledges ) as to whether or not they have been met

R1 - your analogy doesn't work.
In reality, you said this person is a big drinker and you want him in the club. An independent body said, he may well be a big drinker, but he won't be drinking here. You say, yes he will, he will drink loads. He joins, and although he remains a big drinker, he doesn't drink a lot at your club. He does drink some though, so you probably shouldn't be called a liar - more an exaggerator!

I am Happy to concede Hague and the Tories did not lie, they just did not tell the truth.
// The moral of the story is that rather like MPs when it came to their expenses, Messrs Hague, Ashcroft and Cameron did not foresee the impact of Freedom of Information and the fact that it forces out into the public domain things that politicians would prefer never saw the light of day. //

What it does show that Hague believed a man's promise without any guarantee that it would be fulfilled in the short or long term. Such lack of common sense by him and Cameron hardly suits them for the job of running this country. What credence should we put on all the promises that they, in their turn, will be making to us between now and the election.
