Is this a step too far for speed cameras?
There are tests going on in Southwark regarding speed cameras that seem to monitor your speed across different roads.

Rather than a step too far surely this is a step in the right direction and should silence those that seem to say the cameras themselves are dangerous.

Nosha - people die because they are in collision with other things
In most cases they are in collision because they cannot stop in time
Therefore they are going too fast
That may be too fast for the weather, too fast for their ability, too fast for their level of concentration.
If you can't stop in time you're going too fast

Well Jakes - you've got me beat there
How can I possibly respond to such an intellectually precise and well thought out argument?
Perhaps I have a solution
- we could abolish all speed limits and just tell all the knockledraggers with oversized exhausts to go ahead and have a field day
- or we could just continue to impose laws and give up enforcing them
No that'd be silly wouldn't it? all the burglars would nick all the cars - we should just not enforce any law that you dislike!
Or better still not enforce them when you personally break them.
Shall I write to the Home office and tell them of this breakthrough in the justice system or will you?

Wasn't it Swindon that got rid of speed cameras and replaced them with the signs that flash up the speed limit if you are travelling too fast . I think the decision was made on the basis they found this was actually more effective. I believe it resulted in more compliance from drivers as it was seen purely as a safety/speed control measure not a way of raising additional revenue. I have certainly noticed my partner slows down because of this type of sign but she definitely speeds away from camera traps
