Welcome to the Shrubbery.
“Sir Robin of Links-ley” (aka Aquagility) has been teasing you all to guess his links over the last 4 weeks. Sometimes points were hard to find and then other weeks (e.g. last weekend) points have been available in abundance.
So what is there in store this wekend? Will it be easy or hard? We certainly need something to separate the leading bunch (of Christiana, deecee131, lysander, paulineward & seekeerz on 8 points) and to include or exclude the chasing bunch (of beejay1124, caslass, centrino, Grenmus & tearinghair on 6 points).
I can't remember when the last time there were so many contenders for the monthly crown. Not my problem though. After tomorrow's launch, control reverts to Crofter who will score this final round and declare the winner and the next setter at 7pm on Sunday.
We have now had a potted biography of Aquagility's entire life so where else is there to go? Maybe we'll learn of his mother's labour and his eventual birth? Or possibly his 'Prostate Years (à la mode Adrian Mole). Or could we be given an insight into his darker years?
Don't waste your time contemplating, for all will be revealed tomorrow at 8:45am in 'Quizzes and Puzzzles' when "Sir Robin" launches the introduction of his final MM Links Game to be followed at 9:am with the actual link words. Remember to play early though, because bonus points are only available for two minutes after the first correct match for each link.
You should also look out for the international version of this same game which is called KM Links and kicks off around 7 am (but no bonus points in that game so no rush to play that one). The more you match, the more you score. The regular organiser of KM Links comes all the way from Oz and goes by the name of “seekeerz”. As I always say ~ “Why not chance your arm at both Link Games?” They remain open for most of the weekend and all entries are scored and entered on to master scoreboards.
Happy linking to one and all.
The rest of this thread is thrown open to that disreputable rabble (only kidding) known as the 'Shrubbery Crowd'
Of course not, but I had to make something up to say for this introduction read by all of 5 people, so it didn't tax the depths of my literary abilities. lol
There must be more to come: he hasn't mentioned his ascent of K2 or his time-travel into the future yet..... seriously, I am lost in admiration for Aqua's achievements, to stay nothing of his stamina. He puts the rest of us to shame!
Evening all ... if there's anyone about!
Pauline has disappeared into the metropolis to collect her daughter from work, leaving me i/c the cat, dogs and drinks cabinet!!
Right, time for a single malt or two .. hic!
Cheers!! (S)
Single malt? vastly over-rated, Sarumite - all that nasty peaty flavour! (ducks while everyone beyond Berwick starts hurling haggis and tossing cabers in the direction of Warwick) Now if you were to offer me a nice glass of Chablis or macon Villages I wouldn't say no (to the wine, I mean).
Now now tearinghair - you'll have to get round to tasting a few.
I am "North of Berwick" and maybe surprisingly, I am not keen on the really peaty malts. In general, they are the ones from the Western Isles (Islay in particular). There are plent of other malts that are smooth and highly enjoyable.
You (and Sarumite) have put me in the mood for one just now so I will vanish up the attic and seek one out. I think I deserve it and hopefully it will clear the paint fumes from my head (just painted the inside of a cupboard or 'press' as we call them up here).
I have tried a few - my husband used to 'collect' them, if that's the word. He favours Lagavulin which I think is from Islay. Back in the dim and distant his ancestors (MacPhee in one of its various spellings) came from Colonsay. There was even a family legend that he is descended from Rob Roy McGregor, but I take that with a pinch of peat. I stand by my preference for a glass of wine!
I find wine is great with a meal and we have a bottle with our meal about 4 times a week. However, I don't enjoy it by itself. If I am thirsty, I take beer, otherwise a normal whisky blend with lemonade. Malts are for special occasions and I declared tonight as such because I had finally finished decorating the front room.
Fair enough, Gen2. I can't claim any link with Scotland personally, so I really don't have the right to comment. (and I might wickedly add - lèse-majesté I'm sure - that a few tablespoons of whisky make the world of difference to a Christmas cake). Now I'd really better duck and go to bed while I'm still alive to join in tomorrow morning's shindig! 'Night all!
