Looks like TROP are up to their usual tricks. No doubt the standard Islam apoligists will be justifying the stoning. Is this a chance for islam to improve their image by letting her off with 100 lashes instead? Will Dinnerjacket intervene?

i didn't think we had a problem until he started insulting me as soon as I had posted.

So under your rules we are not allowed to debate anything to do with other countries, right oh!
Debate all you like but what's the point? We have no influence for their laws (and quite rightly so). What's next? A thread on why do the French drive on the right?

Different countries have different laws and customs and while they may seem strange or barbaric to us, we should accept them.
Oh and well done for constructing an answer that didn't insult me. You are getting better.
I might agree with you another-view if the administration that passed those laws represented the choice of the people in that country.

In the case of Iran I would dispute this.

That doesn't mean we have to directly intervene we're not the world's policemen but we can make our objections known so that they're quite aware they're not helping their foreign image which could be important in the future

So another new rule, we can only discuss things we can change, right oh! I doubt I can change the orbit of the planets but I find it quite an interesting subject for discussion. What a sad blinkered existance you must have, another-view, keep digging!
Tell me what's the point of discussing it if you can't do anything about it?

R1: I think the Frech should be shot
"Me too"
"I don't"

End of thread. Great!
It doesn't surprise me you enjoy discussing planetry orbits, as you often go round and round in circles on these threads.

So there is no point in discussing anything you cannot change, right oh, so no point talking about films/music/literature/TV/art/science/other cultures. You must lead an interesting life!
then their law is wrong.
being in another country is no excuse for inhumane and barbaric practices...and neither should we just shrug as though its ok, because its 'not our business' - we are all humans first and foremost before any race or religion.

i couldn't care less what country they are in, or what their traditions and customs are - what they do is wrong.
R1Geezer you find it strange that people argue with you on this point but surely you must realise that they disagree with you because you are such an unpleasant person - you make it hard for people to agree with what you say because it makes people think they will be perceived as being like you OR worse actually become similar to you! If a normal person had broached this subject you can almost guarantee people would have agreed that this is a terrible state of affairs ... unfortunately R1 you are worse than being stoned to death.
Blimey, another-view, you really are a knob
Such a well thought out and presented argument there dh001. I guess you are R1Geezer in disguise?
Probably a bit late to enter the fray, but joko is spot on.

The 'its not our country or our laws and therefore nothing do do with us' attitude of another-view is abhorrent.

I couldn't give a tinker's cuss about foreign jurisdiction here, the fact of the matter is that what Iran do is just simply wrong. It may be legal, but that doesn't make it right.

Stoning to death is utterly medieval and completely barbaric, and as for killing a widow for having a relationship..................it just beggars belief.
So when Muslims want to bring Sharia law to our country because they don't like our laws and customs, that's ok is it?
and the leap of logic award goes to............

This isn't a Muslin issue, it is a regime issue.
I realise that. I'm just saying if a group of people wish to change our laws to suit themselves, that's ok by you is it?
Has anyone thought about the notion that she may in fact be innocent?
Heard on the news that although the stoning is off, she will most likely still be executed. Iran's next favourite form of capital punishment is hanging. City square full of spectators, rope round neck and then pulled up until the victim is dangling and slowly strangled.
Moraly Wong no sane person can condone stoning, the punishment cannot fit the crime.

The crime isn't a "crime" and as someone said under this regime and possibly under the Koran laws a raped woman is guilty? I think becuse she is a woman or because she go's out or something so execution in any form cannot be condoned.

Of course it can be debated, the way that Zimbabwe or Burma can be debated it may not directly change something but it may change peoples views and with enough condemnation it may change. As indeed it has in this case so at least the lady won't die though what may happen to her may be worse.

If debate isn't worth anything why do we have parliament.

Oh and Reefer "oooh oh the Oakey cokey"
If the UK had a brutal regime that stoned widows to death for the heinous 'crime' of having a relationship, then yes, I'd hope international community would try to bring about a regime change.
