Have to say Rebel, when I mentioned last year that I was getting rid of my tv (and obviously not going to pay a tv licence) I got a lot of negative replies saying that I would never get the licencing authorities of my back. I made one phone call stating that I no longer have a tv and i havnt heard a thing since.
I was no longer going to pay for the sh1t that I viewed night...

tv licence

Market forces demand that commercial broadcasters take advertising. It's a revenue stream that the BBC could not afford to ignore.

So with that in mind, how could British tv survive?

same as all other businesses cut costs, get rid of the prasites at the top.
The BBC way is to cut programmes and give themselves a big pay rise
In answer to the question, yes I got fantastic value from the licence fee money.
The BBC has got its faults, but I'd happily pay a few more quid.

The fact is though that an awful lot of people wouldn't. If they had the choice of whether to subscribe to the BBC for the cost of the licence fee, they'd choose not to, because they're happy watching 'What Katie did next', 'When boob jobs go bad', endless crappy gameshows, and 20 minutes of adverts for every hours worth of programming.

Is it right that these tasteless twits should be forced to subsidise more highbrow programming for the rest of us? - I don't know, but I'm happy that they are to be perfectly honest

because they're happy watching 'What Katie did next', 'When boob jobs go bad', endless crappy gameshows,

Whatever rocks your boat :)
Get rid of the licence, and that ^ is all any of us will be able to watch..........:o(

JTH if they encrypt the signal you could rush out and buy your licence to show your support

May cost a bit more but hey if you want quality you pay your money and you take your choice
My views from another thread , on the subject

// Have you ever considered what ITV costs you or hasn't it occurred to you that advertisers put the cost of THEIR adverts on everything YOU buy //

The point here is that one makes a choice as to what products one buys and from what company
In the case of the tv Licence you dont get a choice - you're forced to pay this tax , irrespective as to what channel you may or may not choose to watch .

While on the subject , i'm convinced that there is a lot of waste and duplication in the
BBC . Editor / Head of this , Editor/ Head of that .
Whils't the system, is that the cooperation is guranteed a constant wad of cash , there is no incentive to cut costs /wages / be efficient .

At least the new culture secretary appears to have recognised this - i hope it is not just words , but that real action will be taken .
I couldn't raise the entire £3.4billion all on my own.........

With such high quality programmes that everbody wants to watch there will be lots of people wanting to rush out and buy a licence :)
RebelSouls

I have to reiterate - yes, there WILL be loads of people rushing out to buy a licence...but on top of that, the BBC would then have to take in advertising...like...every....other...commerc
ial...channel...in....the....country.

So, what happens to the other channels once the BBC starts dipping into the limited pot of advertisers?

The BBC couldn't be the only commercial broadcaster to take on advertising revenue.

You see the problem?

The parasites at the top will have the biggest problem. They will not have a bottomless pit of money to keep giving themselves huge pay rises.
Where do you get the figures supporting the assertion that the BBC bosses give themselves huge pay rises?
Totyal wipeout's filmed in south america aswell . . .
The licence fee doesn't bother me in the slightest as it only works out at around £2.70 a week. We don't have to endure adverts breaks during its shows, we don't have programs broken up with competitions trying to claw in revenue (Fifth Gear, & The Gadget Show to name two). Like SP1814 has suggested the Beeb produces and funds so fantastic programming.

For the jobs they do I don't even think the wages are all that bad.

BBC DIrector General basic salary £664,000
ITV Executive Chairmain (which I imagine is a comparable job) basic salary £813,000
I totally agree that the BBC over pay certain people, and do waste money.

That said, I find it very hard to believe that all those who rant against the license fee NEVER watch/listen to any of the channel's output. Many split hairs by claiming that they only watch online, so they don't need a licence (which is in most cases legally correct) but they are still consuming output.

As for hassling people, I have heard the horror stories but how many people buy TVs and NEVER watch any TV on them?

Encrypting of the BBC feed to licence payers only? One only has to look on AB at the amount of requests for codes to circumvent satellite encryption to know how well that would work.

Too many people want everything free because the internet has conditioned them to expect that.
Many people working in the media earn big bucks.

RebelSouls earns nothing.

Methinks RebelSouls is bitter, twisted and jealous because he made the wrong career choice!

Anyone who wants freedom of choice is classed as a bitter and twisted person by some.

The BBC are brain washing the public well in this green and pleasant land.

Taken from the web,

Not only does the corporation disdain to offer its goods to be bought or rejected according to individual wishes. It gets its money with methods that no private business or state agency would dare use.

Those who do not have a licence, even those who own no TV or VCR, can expect close attention from the media giant. After a number of threatening letters its agents will visit. They will demand to search without a warrant if the property owner says she does not have a TV. And they will try to “interview under caution” those they suspect of watching TV without permission (a police term equivalent to the American “reading your rights”).

And let us be clear. The BBC does not write threatening letters and send investigators to pound on the doors just of those watching its own channels without its permission. It does this to everyone who does not have a licence. Regardless of whether they watch only commercial TV or are paying a satellite or cable subscription.

The only way to avoid this, at least for a time, even if you do not have a TV, VCR, digital recorder or TV enabled computer, is to give up the rights of a free citizen. To give up the right to go about your lawful business undisturbed and instead explain your lack of a licence to the BBC's enforcers. The Vehicle Licensing Agency does not ask this of citizens who do not have a licence to drive. The police do not ask to search the homes of citizens for stolen goods when there is no evidence for this. But the very life of the BBC depends on such tactics.

You admitted you are unemployed and unable to claim benefits: therefore

Regardless of what you might or might not have earned in the past

my post was not the creation of

it is simply factually correct and logical, something you might have perceived for yourself if your doctor changed your prescription.

It would appear that anyone who points out the obsessive, illocical and inaccurate nature of your posts ///is classed as/// the victim of ///BBC ... brain washing ///

Perhaps we are just a bit more discriminating than believing, repeating and recommending material that has all the qualifications of being
