Prisons and hospitals have a duty of care to those they are looking after and therefore have a right to protect them from assault.

Courts DO punish by the very fact that a custodial sentence is imposed.

If someone handed me a gun and told me I could shoot Ian Huntley, I wouldn't. I couldn't take someone else's life. However, if the court passed a death sentence on him, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Er wrong there. Criminal go to prison AS a punishment not FOR punishment. That is in prison standing rules.
