Maybe the clamping firm were trying to get as much money in their pockets as possible before this becomes law: http://www.dailymail....te-land-outlawed.html

It isn't 'illegal' to park on someone else's land and you can't be 'fined'; that's why the police aren't involved. Trespass is a civil matter which many clampers have hijacked as a way of extorting outrageous fees from people.
Sensible middle way required such as maximum level to fees as youngmafbog suggests.

Some people in this country have a warped sense of morals and justice. There are also those who hailed Raoul Moat a hero, when he was nothing but a murdering thug who the world is well rid of.
Then there are those cheering loudly at the removal of speed cameras from certain areas. Wonder if they'll still be celebrating when people die as a result? Probably.

I'm bemused by the speed camera fiasco.
Despite concerns over road safety many are being switched off due to budget cuts.
But for years we've been told they make a fortune collecting 'inattention tax' from drivers.
So is there a disconnect between the recipients of the fines and those paying for cameras? and if so why?

Speed Cameras make money but not to the councils that have to implement them.
If they were purely for saftey I cant see that anyone could complainm however they need to be an addition to law enforement not a replacement. A collegue of mine got snapped and glady coughed up - he was way over the limit !
Where cameras have been removed, today there has been no corresponding increas in deaths although people have apparently been speeding more.
If the Government wanted to really stop speeding it is simple. Enforce speed restrictors in new cars that are remotely controlled from say lamp post transmitters. Of course this would not generate any income so will never happen
